i flipped on the game and just saw the last few minutes of the first half. battier was all over the place. dude is charlie hustle. rox can use that.
You kidding? That team had at least 10 hall of famers on it. Shane Battier wouldn't even qualify as the ballboy on that team. The only two that weren't were Christian Laettner who was just the obligatory college kid and Chris Mullin who was still a pretty damn good player. That team won games by an average of close to 45 points and they were so dominant that they called a grand total of zero time outs during the entire tournament. No team will ever come close to replicating the talent on the original dream team.
This team has plenty of *potential* hall of famers. We have much better coaching this go-around. If Coach K sticks with his philosophy, there is no reason that we cannot dominate
wait the original dream team never called a single timeout during the games? that is crazy to think they played that many games without taking a break. that team was sooo stacked its not even funny, imagine if hakeem was a us cititzen at the time he would have been on the team isntead of ewing i would imagine. man imagine magic jordan bird barkley/malone dream
Arroyo can play. He was stuck in J. Sloan's doghouse in Utah and he played behind Billups in Detroit. He would start at PG for the Rockets. The Magic got a steal when they picked him and Darko up.
Yeah, Team USA 2006 has plenty of potential hall of famers but still a long way plus a question mark. Potential is nothing if you don't achieve at your prime. The Dream Team has full of Hall of Famer and when they played in that 1992, they are very close to being HOF.
Arroyo and Santiago look very good in the 1st half. Battier is quite impressive, great defense, passing, moving without the ball... If Rox need a backup big man, Santiago would seem to be an upgrade over an aging Dikembe.
it almost took three whole pages to get an honest view of battier. just watched the first half, don't care to watch the second because its clear team usa is going to out talent and wear down this team. battier, he showed what he is going to be, he hustles, he gets in the mix. he's also a settling presence on the offensive end, especially playing with the second tier guys. he can't guard people bigger than him, which is an issue if you want him to play the four. he couldn't even guard santiago. he couldn't rebound over people bigger than him unless it was an errant or long rebound. as far as team usa is concerned, for all the criticism the players caught, its clearer and clearer that Brown was the biggest problem. not playing lebron was total brain lock on his part. Walton even mentioned how players rode the bench some entire games, and it was mind boggling. the team wasn't any more unselfish than the olympic team, save playing lebron more, and having a legitmate point guard in chris paul. but especially when the second team was in, brand was his usual black hole self. I find it hilarious that some people argue so much for hinrich when he shot that ill advised fall away the whole first half, and there was just still a lot of one on one. there was nice passing on the fast break though. and there was good pressure defense. I'm still of the opinion that team usa should just try to put the fifteen best players on the team. the only thing that has changed in international basketball is the teams are better.
Gosh! You are saying this year team is better than '92 Dream Team based on just only one game at Vegas, considered a friendly game where the USA team struggled in the 1st quarter. Let hear what Battier had to say below.
Magic, Bird, Jordan, Barkley, et al are clearly inferior to Anthony, James, Wade, Paul, Bowen, Battier, and Brand.
as far as i'm concerned, the 1992 team had flopton and malone, this team doesn't. advantage 2006 dream team.
