For Walton to say that about Yao now with Yao putting up 30/10 nights regularly, makes Walton look like an idiot. If Yao was still putting up 18/9 numbers then he would have a case that Yao needs better coaching. Thibodeau and Yao have done a great job getting to this point, what I like about Yao's post game is it has legs. Such a simple formula, use your big body and solid base to get inside position on a smaller man and than shoot a 5-10' shot that he's going to make 50% of the time. My question is what's the next step in making Yao better.
1. Just get him da ....... ball. 2. Mix in about 6 or 7 high post plays. 3. Keep working on his hands, catching the ball in traffic, or in short spaces. Any drill that works on quickness. 4. I'd like to see him take that baseline spin on the left baseline to the next level. The defense is starting to overplay and Yao isn't as free to get to the rim. He should practice just rising up on one foot and shooting the little 3 foot runner fading to the left. And he should practice the spin back to the lane area for the little running hook shot off his original spin move.
A lot? fyi: Brown only won 1. JVG hand picked these guys. The chemistry ain't there. And these role players don't really perform according to their roles either. We don't want a running style of play, we want a championship style of play. Instead, we're stuck with JVG's good defense, stagnant offense, and zero adjustments.
That comment really wasnt necessary. I admire Walton because I've had to overcome my own speech problems.
bill walton just said next level is to win the d@nm game, Yao has to make everybody around him better.
Sure, that's what good players have to do. But if you've checked out our rotation lately I don't think Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Walton, Moses, Dream or Shaq would be doing much better with this roster. Of course Moses and Dream in their 4th years would probably have put a lot of our guys in the hospital by now.
Mmm...I thought Bill Walton was the biggest Yao fan since he came into the league where he gave Yao credit when everyone else was koncking on him.
Is your name....K ...K....K....Ken? Sorry...c....c....couldn't resist. Glad you and Bill are better though. DD
I said won championships (9 for Jackson) or win a lot (of games I mean.. Brown 1 championship and always had winning teams (Philly, Detroit, Indiana...) and com'on man...dont start pickin'... you get the point right ?
I'm gonna chuckle my arse off when the "Fire Gundy" crew picks this up and runs with it. During the same broadcast, Walton also said this years' Lakers were playing better because they are much more organized. I'll let you figure out who signed FA's and coached LA's first 29 games last season. Another in-game Walton quote whereby Walton referenced the Mike James for Alston trade..."What was Houston thinking"?
I found it funny, chuckled and decided it definitely needed separation from 'the "Fire Gundy" crew'. It was just intended as an anecdotal Thread, not a heavy, fire da bum one.
I'm impressed with the strides Yao has made this year. It's definitely encouraging sign that he can develop into a great center. Granted, he's a very good center, perhaps only second to Shaq...but in this day and age of weak centers it's not saying much. I think Yao's offensive skills are phenomenal, but I'd still like to see improvement on the defensive end and see that rebound average get into the 12-13 range. As for what Walton said, I don't think Yao suffers under Van Gundy's system. If anything, Yao will develop into whatever he is meant to develop into under any coach. He's one of those players who is self-motivated, so I don't think the coach makes all that much difference.
