Apparently at least 16 people dead in Pakistan, on the day of Friday prayers and "Love the Prophet" day.

Protests over an anti-Muslim film turned violent Friday across Pakistan, with police firing tear gas and live ammunition at thousands of demonstrators who threw rocks and set fire to buildings. At least 17 people were killed and dozens were injured. (...)

They might get tired of burning down their movie theatres and throwing rocks at our embassy buildings after a while. But as far as relations between the two civilizations goes, this seems like a terribly bad idea.

One, it gives Muslim fundamentalists all kinds of ammunition when they propagandize an anti-Western agenda in their own societies. It will make it easier to steer Islamic nations away from adopting Western democratic and republican ideals because they can't conform with an Islamic religiosity. We can't magically make them all atheists; they need to build a civil society in which modern ideals of liberty exist under the Muslim umbrella (and not the other way around) or it won't happen at all. Demonstrating that civil liberties means having to listen to blasphemy all the time isn't very persuasive.

Two, it's going to cement an adversarial relationship between Islam and the West, and it's already bad enough as it is. Each civilization seems hard at work convincing the other we hate them and everything they stand for. Maybe we do. But, I'd rather not spend the next hundred years fighting wars with Islamic countries because we're convinced we hate each other.

So, JuanValdez - what do you suggest, then?

    Restricting freedom of speech?

Because rest assured - there will always be people who will say something or produce something that will be considered offensive by these fanatics.

    What exactly do you suggest?

Gee hundreds of thousands of dead Muslims. I wonder why they tend to be offended.

Hey I know sitting in Berlin , having your neo-con rationales, it appears no big deal to you, but they don't see it that way.

Want to simultaneously bomb a bunch of Muslim countries, cause millions of dollars in damages, and hundreds of causalities without military intervention?

Draw a satirical cartoon about Islam.

Yeah, my bad. Now that I look at it, it was pretty tasteless. Apologies.

But I agree that if we keep on churning these cartoons and hateful videos out, sooner or later, the Muslim population will get tired of protesting. Its gotten to the point where I'm not even surprised that they're burning down embassies and attacking KFC's (wtf, right?). The only question is, what are the consequences of constantly offending Muslims.

    Extremists are extremists...

    Team A
"We have to keep insulting their beliefs otherwise it will encourage them!! It is legal to do so in my version of law. Except international law, which I will ignore if it doesn't suit my goals. Oh and everyone else's law. Oh, and the parts of my law which I disagree with. My law is the best law."

    Team B
"We must protest for these insults otherwise it will encourage them!! It is legal to do so in my version of law. Except international law, which I will ignore if it doesn't suit my goals. Oh and everyone else's law. Oh, and the parts of my law which I disagree with. My law is the best law."

    Great plan lol

The outcome is each side calling the other extremist terrorists, while the moderate majority of the world sits back and recognizes them both as extremists.

It is on the axis of ideological tolerance that these people fall on the same side, the side which promotes FORCING its beliefs on others ahead of law, life, and rights. Almost allies in the way they fuel each other's actions and justify their actions through the actions of the other.

It is in ideology that these people are the same. Because racism, bigotry, xenophobia, etc these things are ideological problems. If a white man slaps a black man, that doesn't make him a racist. It just makes him violent. If a white man slaps a black man because he is a black man, then he is racist. And violent. AS you see, we don't define these ideological diseases through actions, rather we define them through ideology.

Team A and Team B have the same ideology even though the actions of Team A have included less violence in our lifetime than the actions of Team B. This is because violence is defined by actions, and linked to many things such as political representation, education, social problems, accessbility of weapons, and so on. Ideological extremism is defined by ideas and linked to different things, perhaps the only common factor being education. Violence should be punished and criminals sent to jail, there is no disagreement with this as much as they try to dispute it and drive the argument here.

The problem is that Team A and Team B have the same ideological disease. Do not forget that. Do not forget that Team A once upon a time resorted to illegal terrorism and Team B held them accountable to the most advanced laws of the time. Do not forget that if the tables turn, Team B will do exactly what Team A is doing, and Team B would also take over Team B's actions.

The way the cards have been dealt and the game has played out, we need to focus on Team B at the moment because there are more human lives at risk there. But don't lose sight of the fact that in the true war against the ideological DISEASE, Team A will not be cured by making Team B dissapear.

I didn't read your post, but Team A doesn't kill people. Ridiculing your idiotic ideology doesn't make someone an extremist. Only someone who is at the extreme end of the political spectrum in terms of intolerance and lack of understanding for freedom of speech would think that.

Not reading your overly lengthy and senseless sermons is a beautiful example of saving time for more important things, like going to Oktoberfest and getting wasted, eating pork and looking at girls with a lot of cleavage. Salaam aleikum!

They are saying hi to you, Mathloom!

Too bad that you, with your repressive ideology, cannot enjoy these things, so you have to stick to writing endless butthurt posts about why people making fun of your ideology are "extremists".

    Cheers!
