You just referred to Tennis as a "man's game." That is freaking hilarious. Don't get me wrong, I love Tennis. It's a great game for men and women. But, FOOTBALL my son, Football is a man's game. And don't you forget it By the way I'm the coach of my daughter's Kindergarten Soccer team. I love women's soccer. I love women's sports. I love women. And I love YOU. Good day.
Football (Soccer) is a man's game. By the way, why is American Football even called football, when they mostly use their hands?
That's actually a very telling statement. The only womens sports that are really popular in the US are one in which we can view the women as sex objects. I mean look at what the most famous image of US women's soccer is -- it's not somebody scoring a goal, it's Brandi Chastain with her shirt off. (yes, it's debatable that that photo also shows victory, desire, etc, I understand, but still) Same with tennis -- Kournikova, anyone? Even in Softball, even though they got less play, the face of the US softball team was always that Jennie Finch chick, but it's my impression that the less attractive Lisa Fernandez is far and away considered the greatest softball player in the world and possibly ever. I'm not even going to mention beach volleyball. Now what kind of positive message were we sending to little girls again? Oh, here's gratuitous, unnecessary Kerri Walsh picture: lookin good!
At first glance, I couldn't really figure out how a thread on the US women's soccer team had this many posts. Then I read the initial post... Anyway, I am happy they won as it is about time the US remains dominant in something, regardless of the sport and who plays it. Too bad that our men's basketball team can't say the same.
Sorry, I didn't mean to refer to tennis solely as a man's game. I meant men's tennis is a man's game. And woman tennis players can't compete in the ATP tour, but yes they can in the WTA tour. You know what the funny thing is. I've known woman athletes all my life. My mom played Olympic badminton back in the day. My girlfriend was a star track athlete both in high school and college. It's not that I don't love and respect them as people, I just don't think you can put them on the same field as a man with similar training and see them compete. I dont view them as inferior people, I view them as inferior athletes. What's wrong with saying someone is better than someone else at a certain task.
Good post. Thanks for clarifying. But, I don't think there are many people who make the argument that women and men are physically the same. So, I cheer for and appreciate the sisters as well as the brothers.
Wtf? Sam you're propogating the same attitude you're criticising. Hello? You're saying that they're not worth watching, but only good for pictures/sex objects. Man, wake up. Normally you seem pretty progressive so I'm kind of suprised you're proving to be so ignorant.
because thats what we call it Football (American) originated from Rugby Football, IIRC and when the game changed they kept the name football
