It's completely irrational and based on nothing more than hatred and jealousy.

I figured we'd have some fun since you are worrying about U.S. policy over sixty years ago. You do better focusing on the present.

That's pretty skewed, Ottoman. We gave a lot of material to the Allies and we forgave the debt for most of the rest of the materials 'bought.' Further, claiming the prime contribution to Europeans was stuff is ridiculous. The English might have held out but the French, Belgians, Italians, Dutch, Danish, Norwegians all benefited directly from US action, not just material. And I'll also point out that the US saved Western Europe from the Soviets and as such your claims are preposterous.

I also think your claims re: FDR/Churchill further skew the picture because there is little room to doubt that the Americans who fought in Europe did in fact they were fighting for a moral reason - namely to defeat evil incarnate the Nazis. So if our perception of ourselves is that we did so for altruistic reasons that is not out of bounds. The truth, as usual, probably lies in the middle where there were many different considerations - but we need not be called to task for that.

If other countries feel badly about history then that's their problem. The British can certainly revel in their contributions which were great. The Soviets can piss off because they barely better than the Nazis (your figure is off a bit too because at least several million of the Soviets killed between '28 and '45 were killed by Stalin). The French were drinking pernod in between surrendering to the Germans and blowing up their own fleet so the Allies couldn't use their ships in North Africa - not exactly stuff of which legends are made.

Lol. wnes your comedic timing is perfect. I salute you!

Sure. Part of it is that the some in the US get tired of being the major funding source for the UN while simultaneously getting criticized by the UN. If you donated money to the Salvation Army and then they criticized your actions in another matter you'd be none too pleased. Part of it is the inability to act without a clear consensus. While consensus building has its advantages, there are also times when action is just/right/called for when there is no consensus (see Bosnia). Part of it is that some want to retain sovereign control over our own actions, not make our options subservient to other countries.

Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle - I favor multilateral action whenever possible and definitely believe in doing what we can to strengthen multilateral institutions, but I would not preclude unilateral action.

This is one of those threads I wish had started and ended while I was on vacation. Just loaded to the gills with comments I disagree with. A schizophrenic cornucopia of goofy posts, interspersed with a nugget here and there. Some of this stuff I couldn't make up if I tried!

Sage advice. I get sucked in when he lobs such easy pitches up there. It's hard to not hit them. But then he comes back with "ha ha, you smell like poo" kind of stuff and reminds me what folly it is to respond to him. Good thing we got rid of Creepy (an unabashed dork and a dumb one at that) while retaining a toxic barf machine like gwayne.

Creepy sold out when he cried like Mark Cuban to the myspace people to make a bunch of Creepy clones to help him get back on Clutchfans.

He didnt man up and fight for his beliefs, however backwards they were.

This is a Rockets site, you man up even if you backs are against the wall.
