If they don't want us saving them, then how about fending for your self. Don't come running to Uncle Sam to bail you out of world wars or regional genocides or tsunamis. Put Kofi Annan on your speed dial.

They don't have to throw us a parade, but I'm damn tired of getting not even a thank you from these worthless people. Instead they think that we are the cause of everything bad in the world. We should have let the Soviets take all of continental Europe because that's what those people deserved.

And what were they going to do about it - invade New York?

I think if you really look it is there all over the place. It is there but you might not see it with the story on the evening news protesting what America does. Isn't that the conservative claim about the news? They never report the good news?

If they had taken Brittian they could have relatively easily launched attacks on North America. In Mein Kampf Hitler talks about his plans to eventually attack America.

Relatively easily? They couldn't even get a few sabotuers into this country without them getting caught. The notion that could pull a Normandy across thousands of miles of ocean is hilarious.

    Ottoman,
I'm glad we got off our Lazy-Boys and took care of the Germans.

Just as hilarious as the notion that Saddam Hussein was going to attack us with WMDs, eh? ;) :D

Woah! I was not insulted or anything. I just felt that one person thinking I overreacted was enough to make me regret it.

    No hard feelings. :)

    Don't be.

The spies were only caught because the commander decided to defect and turned in all his subordinates.

I was intending to indicate bomber raids. I apologize for not being more clear.

I remember Bill Clinton thinking they were a threat to our interests.

Their bombers would have been sliced and diced. Besides, as you point out, they had to spend the overwhelming amount of their resources to fend off the Soviets. Whatever resources they could have spared to attack across the Atlantic would have been meager.

Guys, if you don't get the point that Gwayneco arguing the Nazi side of things while accusing others of being terrorists is the latest in long line of signs of eternal, unyielding, seppuku-inducing trolldom, then I have no sympathy for you when he eventually melts down and starts calling you various dirty names.

Actually, all I'm saying is that we could have avoided fighting in Europe if we had really wanted to. If the Nazis wanted a fight, we could have chosen to make them fight on our soil - if they were capable. In the end, we made the right decision, though the descendants of those Europeans have made efficacy of those sacrifices somewhat questionable.

The descendents of those Europeans are not dutibound or obligated to treat us as superior, or even 'good' because of what we did 60 years ago. That's ridiculous. They judge us on their perceptions of us NOW, and what we do NOW, and at times one must take off the American colored glasses and realize that not everything we do is rosy.

So the citizens of the U.S. have their ancestors to thank for the good foresight to have left the continent of Europe prior to both world wars. And yes, Americans were fighting for self-interest in those world wars, its not like they were paid mercenaries. Would the U.S. have aided and armed Stalinist Russia if it wasn't in U.S. interests at the time? The British, Australians, Canadians, New Zealanders, and many other veterans of WWII have just as much right to strut their stuff along with the Americans. The Russians suffered unimaginable hardships and losses during WWII which is why we let them take Berlin, and the same reason we let De Gaule enter Paris first. At that time the U.S. still did things the right way.

The problem is that the European colored glasses are pathologically disposed to see us as evil.

And what if Nazi Germany has won the European war without U.S. intervention and had gone on to develop atomic weapons and ballistic missiles before the U.S. Then Nazi Germany could have simply nuked New York without ever landing any troops on U.S. soil.

No they aren't. I highly doubt that you have ever been to America. Europeans, as has been stated by many in this thread, have very high views of Americans. They just, at the moment and for the most part, disagree with the policies of our administration. What is wrong with that?
