Those kinds of things happen all the time....It would be foolish to go all out when you don't have to. Part of the reason the US has such a hard time with Soccer IMO is that it's not a sport that you always play to win the game, there's more strategy in it than that. If you go all out trying to win every game rather than sticking with the safe tie, you are going to lose quite a few games gambling like that. This isn't Talladega Nights, the "if you aint' first, you're last" mentality is dangerous in Soccer. For example, if both teams go out trying to score goals, they leave themselves open to giving up goals via counter-attack. Neither team can be eliminated with a tie, but either could be eliminated with a loss depending on the results of the other game in the group. Also, you risk getting guys hurt. Let's say Germany goes all out trying to get the win and as a result Schweinsteiger or Ozil to injuries that keep them out the rest of the cup aren't they going to regret not just playing it easy? Not everyone likes Italian cookies as it's an acquired taste, but I think the smart money is on everyone getting a bite of one tomorrow and I'd be fine with it.
Eh, it's better than yelling "puta" at opposing players. If FIFA does nothing about improper chants, improper play will go unnoticed.
^ That's NOT on the field of play and hoping for a tie isn't "better." Nice try, but the players aren't the ones doing it and the team should not be penalized for something fans not associated with groups do. Lastly, no one is screaming or chanting what you just said. Clean your ears. This is the beauty of football... if you show up to play.
Anyone know what time places like Galway Hooker or Richmond Arms is gonna open tomorrow morning? Some friends and I would love to catch the game there, but I know they're going to get packed early.
You must have missed last world cup when Portugal and Brazil played to a 0-0 draw in the same situation as this one...there was some people upset about it (mainly the Ivorians) but it wasn't some international incident. Not saying it's the right thing but if you get towards the end of the game don't expect both teams to be giving it everything they got similarly to that game.
I'm sorry, I meant "puta", autocorrect decided puto was a thing. Why not Pluto at that point? I think I've said Pluto more than puto in my lifetime via text... http://worldcup.usatoday.com/2014/06/25/u-s-soccer-chief-says-mexico-chant-inappropriate/ It's about preservation of the beauty of the game, from the players to fans to the refs. FIFA does little toward that in general. Heck, Suarez might even get a medal for biting a guy, ok that might be much but you get what I'm saying. Why shouldn't the team be penalized for the fans anyways? If you represent your country, why can't your country represent you? We #saynotoracism but improper remarks are ok? How do people get to draw that arbitrary line? I'm not singling out one country, we all do something like that I just want the misconception that it's ok to be broken.
1. No player is perfect. Not saying he had a good game but here's the thing, he is one of the most important players on the team and there is a level of difference between him and his replacement. Wait till he misses a match and see. 2. I didn't even want to dwell on anything else but the utter bull$hit you wrote once again. WTF? Are you just writing stuff you imagined? 2b. Apparently you missed the friendly match vs Mexico earlier in the year. c. The match vs Nigeria was not a "qualifying game" for anything. It was a pre-wc friendly. d. Did you actually watch any Toronto FC matches this season? He has been one of their best players EVEN though he missed a few matches due to injuries. His form was quite good prior to leaving for the WC camp and he was one of the best midfielders in the league at that time. I'm not sure where you got nonsense about him looking like "complete crap" since he left Roma...but when you write stuff about him only looking good in a "qualifying game vs Nigeria" then at least not I know you're either just making stuff up along or regurgitating rubbish you heard/read elsewhere. Don't do that bro, it's not a good look. USA- GERMANY!!!!!!!
Why do you post an article to what Gulati said? Who is he to say what other countries' fans mean when they say a specific word? The meaning of whatever is in the dictionary, like "punk" or "gay" has been lost. It isn't really what you and the media want to call it. It actually means nothing gay or anti-gay or homophobic at all... it's an insult, sure, but if the opposing goalie doesn't know its meaning, so what is it to you? If the American Outlaws supporter group wants to chant whatever it is they want to chant, so what? Panamanian and Mexican players won't know the difference. So what? So just 'cuz it hurts your feelings, I will say PLUTO when I'm around you. You're going to stop that, too? Baloney. Anyway, this "chant" has nothing to do with the USA... don't know why we're discussing it here... let's go discuss somewhere else: Take your PC crap to the D&D.
Are you seriously going to tell me it isn't meant in offense? I don't even know what to say to that. Even if the players don't know what it means, its still messed up. Anyways, how it links into the USA talk is in the fact that if FIFA in all its no racism glory does nothing about inappropriate chants, bribery in Qatar, and general tomfoolery they will do nothing about a 0-0 draw. FIFA is useless in terms of enforcement, all they seek to do is collect a paycheck and pretend they care. Soccer is bigger than FIFA, FIFA just leaches off what it needs. Its like the NCAA.
More importantly there is nothing wrong with a strategy of trying to get a tie, I'm sure both teams will fight hard to get that tie. You can't force teams to try and win.

Didn't almost the exact same circumstances play out today in the Argentina-Nigeria game? both teams move on with a tie. It didn't appear to me like Argentina was trying just packing it in. They were trying to win as well even though they would have risked losing and finishing 2nd in the group.
Similar, so who knows? I just don't think we'll see either team out there killing themselves to win. If Germany scores, the US will go all out to get the tie back, if the US scores, Germany does the same.
These videos never fail to give me chills. Just 9 more hours. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/sS172L6Cmv8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The ref for the game is from Uzbekistan. He is a pretty good one but I have a feeling we are going to get rekt. Revenge for Borat?
Hoping for an entertaining match tonight, and no bookings for either team. I would like for USA to advance (as second in the group, of course) . So I hope Ghana and Portugal just tie.
Thats verrry old news brother. I'd figure youd have known that. The English tabs had a field day with it initially but now theyve calmed down. Its not major for him and just gets to him in the form of tics-not swearing/cussing. http://www.spiegel.de/international...-speaks-about-tourette-syndrome-a-902729.html
