Come on Bob, you can not honestly think that I would give France back to Germany....it is just a little jab to the ribs at France.

If you can't get behind helping innocent people then what exactly can you get behind.

Chirac is just being obstinant...all it will do is stop the rest of the world from even asking his opinion.

I mean we took care of Bosnia for France and Germany, and now France in particular, will not even return the favor.

    Maginot line...PFFT

I haven't been voting in his polls, but the conversation hasn't been bad.

Dude, I didn't say that the UN won't go in as retaliation for our action in Iraq, I said that WE can't go in because we started an unjustified elective war in Iraq and as such, do not have the troops to send. Had we met our commitments in Afghanistan and rounded up OBL INSTEAD of going into Iraq, we might be able to do something about Sudan.

As it is, despots worldwide are certainly feeling free to do whatever they want since the US doesn't have the capacity to take any action anyplace other than Iraq.

I'm talking about taking a leadership and serious steps to intevene in this kind of situation. I would like to see our President go these leaders and show how bad the situation, and how serious it is. Show the benefits for stopping this, and introduce the ideas of beneficial development and link some, any, or all development deals so that everyone can benefit. Show all this to the leaders and see if that kind of diplomacy would help to change things.

If it wouldn't then point out the seriousness of what happens by not doing this. We already know that terrorists have been active in Sudan, and show that by not taking an interest in that part of the world we are abandoning it to the terrorists and their supporters. Point out that by putting in an investment into the legitimate well being of the citizens there allies and possible informants for the war on terror are being created at the same time that we are doing the right thing.

Possibly add in other lucrative trade deals etc. as incentive.

If none of that works explore the idea of sanctions and exclusionary trade policies as additional pressure.

Finally if need be then act alone.

I think if a leader whow shows that much dedication and attention to the situation, things would turn around.

Also add in favorable vs. unfavorable press and publicity to the mix etc.

What I don't understand is this: why are we talking tough to the Sudanese government about this situation. After all, we don't really intervene in situations just because there's a humanitarian crisis, right?
