Lyme disease was first described in 1977, after Yale researchers identified 51 cases of pediatric arthritis in children living near Lyme, Connecticut, and named them "Lyme arthritis". In 1979, the name was changed to "Lyme disease" after additional symptoms were discovered, including neurological problems and fatigue. In 1982, Dr. Willy Burgdorfer discovered the bacterium that causes Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, and named one of the bacteria after himself.

A Brief History of Lyme Disease in Connecticut - CT.gov
Jul 1, 2019 — By 1977, the first 51 cases of Lyme arthritis were described, and the Ixodes scapularis (black-legged) tick was linked to the transmission of the disease. During 1982, Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease, was discovered and the first brochure addressing Lyme disease was ...

Lyme disease gets its name from a small coastal town in Connecticut called Lyme. In 1975, a woman pointed out an unusual cluster of more than 51 cases of pediatric arthritis to Yale researchers. In 1977, Dr. Allen Steere and Yale colleagues named the 51 clusters “Lyme arthritis." In 1979, Steere and colleague Dr. Steven Malawista changed the name to "Lyme disease" when they discovered more symptoms. These symptoms included possible neurological problems and severe fatigue. In 1982 Dr. Willy Burgdorfer discovered the cause of the disease. One of the bacteria that cause Lyme disease is named after Dr. Burgdorfer.

Surveillance for Lyme Disease --- United States, 1992--2006
Oct 3, 2008 — Lyme disease was first described in 1977 following investigation of a cluster of arthritis cases among children living near Lyme, Connecticut (1). Further study indicated that arthritis was a late manifestation of a multisystem, tick-transmitted disease.
However, ticks and Lyme disease have been around for thousands of years. In fact, a 5,300-year-old mummy recently underwent an autopsy that revealed the presence of the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Yale researchers have also found that the Lyme disease bacterium has been circulating in North American forests for at least 60,000 years, long before the disease was first described in 1976.
Early symptoms of Lyme disease include a rash and/or flu-like symptoms. In later stages, symptoms can manifest in multiple body systems, including musculoskeletal, heart, brain, and nervous system.
In the past 20 years, cases of Lyme disease have multiplied and spread. Experts cite climate change and the increasing encroachment of human development adjacent to forested animal habitats as reasons for this.

Lolololol! You have to be pretty dumb to believe Tucker Carlson.

    Carlson prefers Russia over America.
