Good, at least you are now saying "believe" instead of I KNOW it's not confidential. A step forward. Your believe is just that thought, a believe.
Too late to nix a bad deal. Obama, either out of stupidity or weakness, is incapable of negotiating with foreign leaders, especially with Muslims who believe that lying is perfectly acceptable. Heck, Obama hasn't even mastered the art of negotiating deals with Congress.
Congress receiving this information - which it is not clear that they did at this point, as we certainly do not know who supposedly received it - is not going to be an issue here from a clearance point of view. You are barking up the wrong tree here.
Classified information should be kept secret from the public but not from elected U.S. Senators and Representatives. That's why we send them to govern, but how can they do that without information?
What classified information is it that Obama is sharing with the Chinese, the Russians and the Iranians during these talks that Congress is not going to have clearance for? You seem to fundamentally misunderstand that Congress is a branch of government that is just as powerful and significant, if not more so, than the executive branch, at least constitutionally speaking.
That's a different debate to be had. There are classified info that Congress do not have access to. Are you ok that those are leaked to Congress?
What you called a bad deal is not viewed as such by the Admin nor by many folks. You see, if the whole reason for info sharing to Congress is to nix a "bad" deal, that's plenty reason enough for the Admin to not share info. And I think I personally have seen enough to take the position that the Republican congress idea of a "good" deal is no deal or one that is simply unrealistic.
Isn't he pretty much doing the same with immigration... So just don't bring up Obamacare if you want to go that route.
I don't know what info is being shared nor do you, because they are not public. Executive branch has the power to negotiate deals. Congress can certainly do their job of checking the power of the executive branch and they certainly should exercise such power. There is really no excuse for Congress to go beyond the law or their given power (ever whether or not you like what the Admin is doing). They were very close to crossing that line with the letter to Iran. If they actually have received confidential info not cleared for their view, they may have.
Classified information is regularly kept from House and Senate members. Members of Congress aren't even required to get a security clearance. There are specific committees - the Intelligence Committees, for example, that go through the extra process and have access to additional information. Many things are routinely only provided to select groups of House and Senate leadership or other specific committees. Many things are not provided to Congress at all. Your not knowing how the system works does not mean that Obama is somehow screwing Congress over. It just means you don't know how things work.
I'm actually amazed that anybody with half a brain wouldn't assume that Israel would be trying as hard as possible to spy on those talks. Basically, all of the disagreements that Netanyahu and congressional chicken hawks have with the president are things that congress, Netanyahu, and Obama know and discuss in private. It's pretty clear that the speech to congress was designed to pressure and embarrass the president in public. I understand that as a tactic. I guarantee you that if you got everybody in a private room on a lie detector and asked them whether a) Israel is probably trying to spy on the talks and b)if the situation were reversed the USA would be doing the same, everybody would agree with both statements. All this is is the president returning public embarrassment for a planned and coordinated attempt at public embarrassment between congress and Netanyahu. What this is is the president returning the favor in a very measured and proportional way. Like for like. If he was trying to burn bridges, there are much bigger pieces of ordinance he could roll out to actually damage the relationship between the US and Israel. This is the president handing out a slap on the wrist in return for ****ing with him the way congress and Netanyahu did. If he didn't do it, congress and Israel would think it is a free license to repeatedly kick him in the nuts with no repercussions. Some of the responses I'm seeing here are way over the top. Crazy Seven Days in May ****. There is no such thing as destroying the constitution (by way of denuding the president of his authority) to save the nation. BTW, there is a reason that most of congress can't just walk into closed sessions of the House or Senate Intelligence Committee meetings. To join those committees, Senators and Congressmen have access to top secret and classified information, and they have to undergo a security background check like every other American, and they have to sign a security agreement that makes it a felony to divulge information just like every other American. So just the simple fact that you are a congressional representative does not automatically give you access to top secret information. Being elected doesn't bypass national defense security checks. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi couldn't get elected to congress and then pass on all US defense information to ISIS. If he could somehow get elected, a background check would freeze him out of classified information, despite the fact that he would still be an elected and serving member of congress, with the power to vote.
Well, for one thing, they are not the guys chanting "Death to America". If you have to pick some friends, its good to make sure they aren't the ones that want to kill you. I think the unconditional support for Israel serves as codependency for Israel's (ultimately self destructive) paranoid tendencies, but the relationship doesn't have to be defined only by "on/off".
You do understand how clearance works right? You do know that not every member of congress has clearance to access every piece of information? The way it works is that different members have different levels of clearance and certain documents and information have different levels of clearance. One piece of information might be classified in such a way that any member of congress has access to it legally. Another piece of information might have clearance high enough that only members of the intel committee would have access etc. So it would actually depend on what information was released to which members of congress. Either way the fact that you seemed more loyal to Israel than to the United States is a strange thing to witness.
there are alot of christians in this county who think it is their religious duty to defend israel. its in the bible that christians are supposed to protect the jews. i have family who say this...its freaking bizarre. i work with a jewish guy from the united states who went to israel to serve in their military for a couple years. he never served in his own country's military, but moved to a foreign country to serve in theirs. im not saying he was bad for doing that, but its odd to me.
From the Israelis???? Who are lying about the information too? This to me was disgusting from a partner. I hope we punish them now. We should recognize Palestine as a sovereign state. If Obama doesn't do that, I have lost all respect for him as a man.
Well, first of all we need to establish if Obama and his crew even got the allegations right, as it appeared that the Republicans interviewed today really did not know anything about this, and in fact were curious as to why nobody approached them with this information. The seemed intrigued by the possibility and gave off the vibe like they were concerned they had somehow been left out. Of course we all know by now what a habitual liar Barack Obama is, even if there are still a few diehards around who refuse to admit it. So, it is critically important that we first determine if this actually happened at all. The way to do that is to first of all identify which Senators or Representatives that it supposedly happened with. Apparently nobody seems to know the answer to that important question at this point. Obviously, this whole narrative will have to be written-off as just another Obama prevarication if that question cannot be answered. Then, like you say, it would need to be determined if there actually was any formally "classified" information involved. This seems highly unlikely, as the information we are talking about is information that is being shared with the Iranians, the Russians and the Chinese. So, how "classified" could it be? In all probability, it is likely information about the status of ongoing negotiations, and as such is not likely to be formally classified at this point. Especially not if the information was delivered verbally in the form of second-hand reports from representatives of the Israeli government, as is very likely the case. If any of this even happened at all, of course. So, I know you Obamabots are foaming at the mouth, looking for someone to apply your standard "politics of personal destruction" agenda to. But you might want to try and ratchet down your expectations here, as this incident is almost certainly not going to provide you with the opportunity you are yearning for.
