sadly I never got to see them live, so I don't know about their live shows. I just wouldn't call that album a sucky era for the band.

No, you said the best of the west coast straight edge hardcore was over by 85, which is completely false before the scene wouldn't ven solidify until several years later.

The LA hardcore scene of the Black Flags and Circle Jersk of the world was worlds apart from the youth crew scene, both stylistically and personel wise. Black Flag were a bunch of long hairs smoking week and ripping off Sabbath by the time the straight edge hardcore scene took off.

Sorry, I missed the "West Coast" part. But Minor Threat's "straight edge" philosophy was more than one song. But, yeah, my post was wrong because I misread.

I should have said in my opinion the best was over by '85.

And you may be correct about the straightedge scene of LA. I realize that most of the bands I was referring to were DC or East Coast bands, though they were definitely part of the straight edge movement in those cities.

and I specifically didn't list the early 80's DC punk and hardcore scene because tons of documentaries and books exist about them. the mid to late 80's DC scene is an entirely different story, and I did list it.

and one glaring scene i left off my list was Chicago in the mid to late 80's with bands like Rapeman, Naked Raygun, Big Black, etc.

You also had the Louisville bands like Slint, Rodan, and even Breadwinner from Richmond that birthed math rock.

I guess one of the earlier west cost straight edge bands has to be Uniform Choice who have records out since 85, when I dont count in the 7 Seconds, but since they are from Nevada they may not apply. Or have there been earlier west coast straight edge bands?

Can someone please post a message in this thread if they happen to see this coming on TV sometime in the future? I searched the TV listings, and it doesn't appear to be on right now.

Lesson learned in wasting my time reading this thread: if you wish to argue about the US music scene from the early 80's to 1988 with a former backup rockets center, be prepared to do some homework
