    Hey R2K,

Glad to see you're feeling better. When you're up and about, maybe I'll come down there and we can have lunch or something. Wings, ribs, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, burgers, fries and then for dessert we can have some butter... it's on me!

    What?

I'm just a two-bit poster, but I'm elated to hear the good news.

Take it easy, R2K. Looking forward to you getting back to normal and seeing you around here.

I'm a little late but that sounds like a kickass news to me!

I don't understand lick about what you just explained to us about aorta's or whatnot (science isn't my forte, at all), but that sounds dangerous. I take it it could be because smoking and/or lack of exercise?

I hope you'll be up and running in no time. Join the boys on some CF weekend basketball sometimes. at 44, you should still have some game.

All you really need to understand is that the aorta is the garden-hose-sized artery that comes straight out of your heart and carries the blood to the rest of your body. If it splits and ceases carrying the blood and you aren't immediately within reach of a medical professional, your chances are very poor for survival.

I honestly knew I had risk factors for circulatory problems, that is why recently I had started working towards better health. I had recently cut way back on my smoking, was eating healthier and had just started doing some light hand weight workout....If I had followed what they tell us about consulting a doctor before starting a workout program, they would have most likely saw the warning signs and we could have taken care of this before it got to the point of needing open heart surgery. That was my bad. If I can get at least one person out there to head my words, I would be happy. So this is probably not the last time you are gonna hear me repeat this.

I figger since I thought that bit about consulting a doctor was only aimed at the truly out of shape/obese, this just goes to show you it can happen to anyone...It wasn't like I was a fat slob who ate nothing but junk food, I eat lots of natural grown fruits and veggies from our garden and my in-laws. The worst thing about me was being a smoker and leading a slightly sedentary lifestyle since I have been doing computer work this last 15 years.

This is now my quest...hope yall will bear with me.

    and edit....congrats pele.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that, R2K. And I don't think you have to worry about getting "cool story, bro" if you are preaching the good word of heart health / heart caution after your experience. It's the #1 stalker of men in the US of A.

    Here's to continued mending.

Does your doctor feel this was caused by smoking or was it something you were born with? My father was a heavy smoker for 35 years and ended up having lots of problems with his arteries - including 4 synthetic patched sections.

Good luck continuing to make healthier lifestyle changes. I know that it can help but will definitely be hard. Though, I imagine what you've gone through is some great incentive.

Well, you know doctors...they aren't exactly the types to make pronouncements of fact on things that have many risk factors. They really hate to paint themselves into corners like that. I will be going to see a cardiologist come next week as they only folks I have dealt with prior to this were ones that you get assigned as an emergency patient.

As we went thru the family history, there is no history of this exact condition, but there was enough related things that we have a genetic researcher wanting to check us all out to see if there might be a genetic component, which we of course agreed to. Knowledge is power.

    FB,

havent smoked anything of any kind in almost two weeks now, quit sucking on the energy drinks(used to drink 2 a day) and am watching every food\drink that passes over my lips. Its necessary if I care to see my girls grow up.

Your youngest was texting me up a storm the whole time, she was really concerned about losing her daddy. ;)

Really glad to see ya pull through old man, wouldn't have been the same without you. You and your fam have been good to me and I am more than happy to jump in and return the favor.

Take care of that ticker and spend some time with those women of yours.

R2K - just curious...did the doctors mention energy drinks as a possible cause that contributed to your condition? Because I drink too many of those myself, particularly when I have to drive late at night. Thanks...
