Damn, I can't believe I missed the R2K post yesterday.

Glad you're on the mend, buddy. I also had a friend go through the same thing a few years ago. I saw him in 2009 and barely recognized him. Lost a bunch of weight, quit smoking and drinking. He looked 20 years younger.

Can you say blessing in disguise?

I couldn't be happier to hear that. Just make sure you follow the Doc's advice and keep working on getting better. That sounds like scary stuff. I'm just thrilled and impressed you seem to be recovering so quickly.

    Keep it up!

R2K we realize that it is heartbreaking that the Rockets didn't make the playoffs, but let's not get so carried away next time.

Swoly doesn't have a monopoly on corny jokes and bad smiley usage. He is just most prolifico :p

    imad2k,

was starting to get it together just as this hit me anyway, but yes I now have zero excuse not to quit smoking for good. Ive been eating healthier, and I had just started a new workout program on my upper body....but since I did not consult a physician I almost paid the ultimate price.

I wasn't even doing anything physical when this hit...I sat down to my desk and my lower body went numb (keep in mind the aorta feeds the leg arteries)...evidently my aorta had split internally to just inside the outer shell at that point and by the time it split back thru into the main body of the aorta (the feeling in my legs came back by the time we got tot he hospital) they had done a scan and realized what was wrong with me....they IMMEDIATELY called Life Flight (good people, but damn you should see how much they charge for that 10 minute chopper ride) adn got me to the best damn medical center in the country. We forget sometimes how lucky we are to have such access to such a top-rated place.

I dont remember anything from landing on the helipad till sometimes last sunday. Evidently I was a little craphead who had given up cause everyone was blown away about the difference in my attitude from the time of the surgery till when I finally got my snap back.

I shudder to think of what might had happened if I had just given up laying in recovery, guess I wasnt ready to go yet...Rockets still gotta win a third damn ring!

anyway..I relate this tale as a cautionary tale....Im only 44, hard living can and will cut your life short....so damnit, take better care of yourselves guys and girls....you dont want to go thru what I just did.

after much delay, they finally let me get out of there so maybe now an get a decent nights sleep without a sleeping pill. :(

Those beds are so bloody unfomortable and they wouldn't let me sleep on my side as long as my breastbone is still healing, so Iver been pretty much dead beat. Gonna finally lay down on my temperpedic pillowtop and remind myself what a real night's sleep really is.

the amount of support I have gotten from various groups of folks I know just blows me away...but never moreso than from here. The family and long time friends that I have heard from don't surprise me cause that's what friends and family do....but most of yall have never met me and alll you know me is from my online persona (which is really just as dorky as me irl)...and that is what makes it even more special.

I know I already gushed over this, but Im feeling much more mentally together and able to formulate a thought than I did Wed.

Congratulations on getting home, and remember, part of the process of healing from major surgery is posting in the BBS (thoracic surgery textbooks actually say, "BBS posting is one of the most important factors in a quick post-operative recovery.")
