I don't mean for this to be self-serving, though of course I can see how it is. But, my wife and I just hit a big milestone, so I needed to share. My wife's been running a business for several years now, called urbanCHEF (which has been in my sig forever) that teaches cooking as edutainment and an all-around good time. But, it had been in a sort of hidden-kitchen model, serving up to 8 people at a time at a well-equipped but small kitchen. After umpteen requests from companies wondering if we could do a corporate event for whatever department, we decided to expand. So, we found and leased a store front near that Costco at Richmond/Weslayan and built it out with 2 kitchens that can each host ~25 people. And today -- after going overbudget on construction and after many delays -- today we finally got our final inspection from the City. So, as of today, we are officially open for business! Of course, there's a bunch of little things to do, like get our gas hook-up, but it's such a relief and such a milestone to reach this point. Now, all that's left is to make the actual business a success.
That's awesome! Congratulations. I never clicked the link on your sig before, but it definitely looks nice. Any Clutchfan discounts?
congrats man. so you offer cooking lessons for large parties? i bet my dad would love to take some clients and their wives to something like this.
Congrats! Sounds like the best thing is that if you run out of supplies, just make a quick jog over to Costco!
I opened a menswear store in Rice Village late last year and I know EXACTLY how you feel. Especially with the construction, delays, and finally getting that final inspection. Seems like a fun business, I may have to check it out soon. Congrats!
Discounts for you losers? Yeah, we can probably figure something out. I'll look into making a CF.net coupon code or something, depending on what our billing system can handle. Maybe I'll collect handles so I can screen out all the Lowry-bashers. Yeah, the website is a work in progress. Not bad for a home job, but we know it needs to get better. Yeah, we've done quite a few corporate things already, including sales groups with their clients. They always have fun with it.
Great stuff. I'd rep you if I could, but I'm all out of lettuce. Glad to see Ms JV out there doing something with all that spare time I'm sure she has. Don't you have about a dozen kids???
Sounds cool. My girlfriend and I have talked about doing something like this. Best part is we live next door at 3333 so this would be convenient!
Lol. It's a baker's dozen. We got an au pair a little while back to help close the gap. She's been great with the kids.
Congrats on the achievement. I love hearing success stories that come out of people chasing their dreams.
