I'm a fan of Mo Pete myself, but do have some reservations only b/c everyone I know in Toronto complains about his inconsistency and has wanted him off the team for years now.
I looked at their roster and their "bad contracts" arent even that bad. Alston is cleary the worst, but he's getting $3mil/season and I think you could probably trade him to Miami for some peanuts. Jalen Rose is getting T-Mac money, but it seems like he will be an amnesty cut. That leaves Eric Williams (good, battle-tested backup for T-Mac: $4mil for 2 seasons) and Alvin Williams ($6.5 mil for 3 seasons but if he never plays again I believe we can cut him next year <---EXPERTS PLEASE CHECK FOR ACCURACY) .....Then again its a moot point if we get Finley. Brining in Finley and Mighty Mouse without giving up anything, makes us as good as any team in the league right now (San Antonio included). And we'd still have all of our expiring contracts to make a move during the season if necessary
Cuban has a billion dollars or so, and wants to win a championship in the worst way. I got to believe he would eat the luxury tax money before he would let(pay) Finley to play against him in Houston. Even though he would save 10 mil or so in luxury tax money, he would still be paying finley's contract for the year, essentially paying for him to play for another team.
http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or.../sports/112211293676830.xml&coll=7&thispage=2 Portland will have salary room once it exercises the league's new amnesty clause, which allows a team to waive a player and not have the salary enter into luxury tax arithmetic. This means Derek Anderson is gone. Ruben Patterson, another veteran who might be a candidate to be move, is likely to stay with the team. Patterson played well last season, and McMillan likes him from their days in Seattle.
I disagree. Cuban is NOT going to eat that LT money. Fin is gone. Looks like DA will be another one of those players available in FA. Another good candidate to be picked up for the LLE in my opinion.
