Because Duante isn't very good anymore. Joseph is a level above Duante. He is not quite in the league of Revis and Aso, but he is in a small group of guys right below that.

I don't begrudge him that. Just don't use my Texans to accomplish it.

We've been used enough ON the field, we don't need to be used off it.

I'd say Joseph would do even better here just because the Bengals organization is so dysfunctional (say what you will about Dan Snyder, but Mike Brown is a million times worse).

texans really outdid themselves. i love how this has turned out. JJ is the 2nd best corner who is 3 years younger and a few million dollars cheaper. i will take that 8 days out of the week. add the fact that we were also able to sign Manning, this has been the ideal offseason.

    CAN'T WAIT!

Joseph's a top-5 physical specimen at corner & Manning's extremely versatile and brings quality playoff experience to a young secondary. They instantly become the 2 lead dogs in the defensive backfield... hopefully K-Jack steps up, and I'm eager to see Harris on the field, as well.

Major tests await in the first 6 weeks of the season... Indy, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New Orleans.

Great point -going from a quasi mental institution (Bengals) to the Texans should be a refreshing change of pace.

Coverage will be significantly better by default with these signings, is there room for Pollard now?

That ship sailed a long time ago. You know, the whole refusing to play week 17 thing. And he wouldn't start anyway with GQ and Manning back there.

Maybe if he put on about 40 pounds we could convert him to OLB. :)

    I'm stunned. And pleased.

And, I'm loving Wade Phillips now. Dude comes in and all of the sudden we're drafting the DBs we need instead of 5th-string TEs, and then we're getting premier FAs to take us to the next level??

Seriously, Wade, how many roofies did you stick in McNair's coffee yesterday?

So why didn't we just keep Dunta and move Quinn to FS? I will never understand the man that is Bob McNair.

I don't see why people don't get this. Dunta (not "Dante" or "Duante") was pretty good, then he had a bad injury, then he just kind of sucked. And now he just sucks. He was not good in Atlanta last year. Even though our secondary was awful last year, in hindsight I'm glad that we didn't give Dunta the $9.5 M/year the Falcons gave him. And JJ is going to make less than what Dunta was his last year here when we put the franchise tag on him. And unlike Dunta, JJ is top CB in the league and is actually worth that kind of money

I still remember that play a couple of years ago where Dunta laid a hard hit on Joseph Addai and then celebrated like a jackass (as if he'd caused a fumble, which he didn't) while Manning quick snapped the ball and threw a 30 yard completion to Dunta's side of the field.

Are we going the Miami heat route and locking down the best two players in FA?

He used to be my favorite Texan, but he got that "big fish in a small pond" syndrome and starting thinking he was better than he really was.

My lasting memory of Dunta is Peyton Manning quick-snapping the ball for a 20 yard gain to his man while he was still celebrating tackling him on the play before.

It's just one guy, though he seemed to have some credibility yesterday. His Thursday report of the Texans making a "hard push" for Asomugha preceded the Lombardi tweet ("Texans in the lead") by a couple of hours. Who knows.

Because he never returned to pre-injury form, struggled badly to stay with top receivers (Chad Johnson was clowning him all game his last year) resorting to deliberate holds to prevent deep TD catches, and decided to reinvent himself as a box safety that got so caught up celebrating a hard hit he was caught with his pants down on a quick snap and pass for a huge gain.

We were awful last year because we had 3 starters in the secondary that couldn't cover and shifted our #2 CB onto #1 WRs. Not because Robinson was irreplacable.

We made a play for Bodden last year and missed.

We made a play for Joseph this year and snagged him. For less total dollars than Robinson, and he's a better cover man.

I don't think he's a jackhole. He and the Jets are gaga for each other. His agent is just doing what he can to leverage equivalent money from the Jets. Niners figured it out, so did we. No harm, no foul.
