Hey guys, I had problems with one or more of these updates.

I'm running XP Home, and I had downloaded all updates except SP2 as of Monday. Then on Tuesday I downloaded and installed all the new updates (once again excluding SP2, as I want as little unnecessary crap running in the background as possible). When I restarted, everything was running really slow for no apparent reason. It took three seconds just to close a notepad window. Tried restarting again, same thing. It definitely wasn't spyware, my system is extremely clean... I run Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Adaware, Spybot, I use Firefox, the works. It was clearly a result of installing this newest set of windows updates. I did a system restore back to Monday, and everything is fine again.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH UPDATE(S) I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH HERE?

check the cpu % and see which process is taking all the cpu resource. Hopefully it is not System.

That's the first thing I checked. 99% System Idle Process, like it should be.

You could always revert back to previous status and install the update one at a time to see which one is causing the problem, then use the google to search for help.

Yeah, I know that's the sure-fire thing to do... but there were 11 updates released all at once, so i was just hoping I wouldn't have to do that...

I downloaded and installed all the generic XP security updates, and things are still running fine. That leaves these four updates:

    1. Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 SP3, English (KB886906)

    2. Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)

    3. Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB867282)

    4. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - February 2005 (KB890830)

So it's definitely one of these that was causing the slowdown I described. When or if I figure out exactly which one is responsible, I'll let you guys know. In the meantime, any guesses as to which one it might be and what's causing it?

I had a suspicion about #4 (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - February 2005 (KB890830)), so I installed the other three. Sure enough, my computer's still running fine. Anyone else have any problems with this update?
