I hope he doesnt play in the World Championships so he gets extra time to rest and heal before NBA 06-07 goes live and he tears it up with T-Mac.

As a foot surgeon that deals with Jones fractures frequently, i think with the surgery, followed by 6 weeks of immobilizition on cruthces, ( i would put him on a bone stimulator asap), and another month of slow PT. he should be as good as new in three months. NO worries.
JOnes fractures are pretty common, and if managed early, and agresively they can heal uneventfully.

Whoa, thanks to the power of Clutch Fan, we have among us a poster who's got the ultimate credential in this area.

In your expert opinion, ACL1, is it a common practice to leave the screw inside the fifth metatarsal if it doesn't bother the patient? In case the screw has to be removed, is it way too early to do that two weeks after the surgery?

Hope you can clarify some of the confusions here. Thanks.

actually, the real question would be is Yao's frequent Jones fractures a major concern to the Rockets' organization and would this surgery (first time for Yao) finally nip this problem in the bud?

I think this is the first time he suffered Jones fracture on his left foot, despite various other problems on the same foot in the past.

    Good question nonetheless.

I hope this does not turn into a conspiracy theory like Olajuwan's injuries early in his career.

I hope Yao's rehabilitation goes as planned. Hopefully he won't miss any important games for the CNT.

Yes. The screw states inside the bone permenanly, unless it bothers the person( i.e. irritation). but the way we put the screw in a Jones fracture (parralell to the bone straight in the middle) usaully we get no problem wit irritation. JOnes Fractures are notoriously hard to heel fractures.

Unlike Johnson fractures, which heal as soon as another beautiful woman walks by.

The biggest chinese bastetball website HOOPCHINA had reported that their inside source indicated Yao would not be a part of Chinese national team this summer.

It said the Chinese Basketball Association would made a new summer plan without Yao for World Champion 2006 considering Yao's injure. They would give Yao whole summer for recovering and play without Yao in WC2006.

Yeah, I was kind of hoping Yao could play. Remember the Sydney Olympics?

Watching highlights of Yao calling out his teammates, shoving guys to the ground, dunking on them and then staring 'em down, even taunting his opponents, that was awesome.

He would take on double and triple teams, run down guys on the fast break, and stuff people at the 3-point line. He was as demonstrative as I've ever seen him. That was the "Real Yao".

Will we ever see that in his game in the NBA? I don't know. Watching him playing with his Chinese teammates is like watching a wild animal in its natural habitat.

I think you meant Athens Olympics.

Yao Ming was not that dominant in Sydney. Wang Zhizhi was.

I stand corrected. Nonetheless, I just like to watch Yao play.
