his hurricane kick move is good, plus he has a fireball/dragon punch. looks legit to me. what i don't like is how slow vega is compared to sf2hd. he stinks now. also i don't like this version of chunli vs the sf2hd chun li. <object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YfRyZ2phw3g&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YfRyZ2phw3g&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>
A give that he's not a terrible character period, he has some useful moves, I'm just saying that I don't see how/why any serious player would pick him over Ryu/Ken/Akuma. I do agree that the Hurricane kick move is pretty good... it's really the only positive aspect of the guy that separates him at all from the Ryu clones. It's just not enough to make him better than them overall. And yeah, too bad about Vega being so slow, and I agree that Chun-Li seems less effective for some reason... my roommate is also rather disappointed that Honda's repeating punch isn't quite as overpowered as it was in SF2HD. I'm pretty impressed with the balance overall, though.
I'm stuck on Ken's hard challenge #3... I can do the first 3 hits fine, and I can do the second 3 hits fine. It's that transition from the ducking weak punch to the first shoryuken that's totally getting me... any tips? ...now I just need KOF XII to come out, so I can play Joe Higashi and Terry Bogard. If only there were a way to put them in this game.
that explains it. Its the age old Street Fighter argument of the SNES SF2 players vs the Arcade players. The Arcade players will ALWAYS have the advantage. Some of those combos are almost impossible to pull off if you don't have the arcade stick, your thumb and not having the 6 button configuration can only get you so far. I played someone using the ps3 pad, it drops what i could do combo wise by at least 30%. And on SF4, there are some many combos that you have to buffer the Ultra combo, its too hard or impossible to do without the 6 buttons aligned CORRECTLY. there's a reason why the arcade sticks for both systems are sold out.
I have the Madcatz fightpad (below), so I do have the 6-button layout. Like I said, I can do stuff like a small shoryuken into a super shoryuken into an ultra shoryuken rather easily. It's just that one transition from a low weak attack to the shoryuken. If it were a high weak attack into a shoryuken, it would be easy...
Just push the punch on your movement down and you should get the crouched weak punch in and press it again on the way up and you'll get your uppercut. I plan on getting a joystick but I am going to mod it and put the octagonal gate in or at least I'm going to try. Which stick would be easiest for this mod? Hori real arcade pro or the SFIV TE fight stick? Obviously either one is hard to get at the moment but I can wait til they become available at decent prices.
What the hell does "Shoryuken" mean? Are we even sure that's what Ryu & Ken are saying? Are you sure they aren't just egotistical enough to name the fireball after themselves? As in "RyuKen?"
Thanks for the input. What usually happens when I try to make that transition is I end up doing one of three things: 1. Letting go of crouch too early and throwing a high weak punch, 2. Going straight into a small shoryuken instead of doing the punch, 3. I end up continually throwing low weak punches. The way I see it, I have to be holding D to do the punch, then I have to almost instantaneously slide over to F without touching DF, then go straight back to D, once again with no DF in between. So it's just down, right, down, no rolling. That's hideously hard to do in the window of time given for a weak punch. It's just unnatural motion. I'll probably just end up accepting that I don't feel like dedicating the time to just SF in order to be able to pull that stuff off, or train myself on a stick... Really? Thanks, I'll have to try that.
i'm having issues with Sagat 'fake kick' move. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f4DaTNHkxZs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f4DaTNHkxZs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
There's nothing special about it, you just don't have fast enough fingers. You either need to get a turbo controller, or do it with a drum controller. Plug in your drums and map a pad to the kick button, then hit it with your sticks twice really fast. Worked for me.
FINALLY beat Ken's 3rd hard challenge. Thanks everyone for the help. ...then I tried the fourth challenge, pretty much said "yeah, I'll never be able to do that," and gave up, lol. So I got online for the first time. At this point it seems like I'm basically a middle-of-the-road player skill-wise. Of the 3 people I fought, the first guy kicked my ass whenever I played anyone except Ken. The second guy I owned with both hands behind my back. Third guy was about equal to me.
Tinman having trouble with something!? But.... you're using a stick?..... Only us joystiq users should have trouble with anything. I'm not sure about Gouken. It's great they did not make him an exact Ryu/Ken/Akuma clone, but I'm not sure I like his moveset yet. I'll go through his Challenge mode and see exactly what he can do. Very defensive focused from what I've heard. I suppose I thought that Akuma's brother, along with being Ryu and Ken's master, was going to be just unbelievably great offensively if nothing else, but they went another route. I'll have to better see how he works.
that was so vague, it says 'fake kick' what the f$#k is that? i would never use that move in a game. Someone online kicked my but with Gouken.
Sagat fake kick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKoTUn3y9Fg I'm sure you've seen that, but if you haven't there you go. I know what you're saying about the usefulness though. What was the point of Ryu's fake fireball? Did it ever actually fake someone out to the point that it was useful? I never saw the point of it. I think it goes back to some high level play that I have no interest in. But regarding Gouken, I suppose going back to the famous EGM April fool's joke, he's had this mystique. I just expected too much in terms of offense. An Akuma on steroids if that is possible. You just have to know how to use him properly, which I don't right now. Using him like Ken or Akuma won't work, trust me, heh.
Wow tonight was the first time I felt I was never in a fight. What is up with El fuerte. I guess I just haven't played against him enough to know how his attacks are but it just seemed I was getting taken left right up and down. First time I wanted to throw my controller and this was against a human. What an annoying little b*stard. I'm using Abel like 95% of the time but he is missing that unstoppable move most of the other guys have which is one reason why it made it tough. El fuerte against an uppercut or flashkick doesn't stand much of a chance in my opinion.
Picked up the game a few days ago. Anyone on PSN want to dance? The BP system is a little whack. I had 300 BP and beat someone with 2,000+ BP and only gained 128 BP, while I beat someone with 500 BP and gained 80 BP. Shouldn't I get a little more when I defeat an opponent with over 5x my BP? Online is weird to play. A lot of times, my inputs don't work. I'll do a ultimate or combo and it doesn't register. I guess it's the lag factor. I don't have this problem when I play against another human side by side or against the cpu. Capcom needs to patch the online lobby system asap. Only two people per room is ultra lame. They need the same set up from SSF2HDR. Up to 6 people per room and spectator mode. I noticed some of the old combos don't work, or require precise timing to pull off. At first I hated it, but I guess it's a good thing because it'll reward the dedicated players who are willing to put the time into the game and master the timing/combos. There's a lot of depth into this game. The ultras, which I think are gay, the focus attack, dash, focus cancel, new throw system.
