What about the politicians? Supposedly, they are accountable to us, but they seem to do what they want anyways.

There's the possibility that they want to string you along until Friday aka "Firing Day."

If they want to fire me on Christmas Eve, a day when no one will be in, then I would not want to work there anyway.

I've got to agree with everyone else. They want to move you out, but want to keep you on until they get another person on -- and maybe trained.

I would spend this time doing a good enough job to not get fired prematurely, assuming you need the paycheck. That will give your other suitor time to come around to needing you. You need to also be looking for third options in case this other company doesn't come through for you, or to be leverage in negotiations.

so you are worried about getting fired but the second you can fire them you are going to? I' m I the only one that sees the irony in this?

I mean no offense seriously but what do they owe you? You work there for them they don't work for you. You have already performed low enough to merit probation and it sounds like based on what you are saying you are pretty much coasting ,and I am sure they see that. It really just makes you look like crap and in the meantime they will humiliate you by putting you on probation ,and build a case against you.

Poor owner that has a guy like you not even giving it his all because his mind is already out the door. I am sympathetic to your driving far but you knew how far it was when you took the job. That's like being offered the chicken or the fish then ordering the fish, then being mad because they bring out fish. umm 'here's some rope, now go hang yourself'

I understand your heart is not in it, but can you fix things?? and continue forward not screwing up? If yes then perhaps instead of looking for another job you could show your current employer a good job ,and the courtesy they give you every week of letting you cash a paycheck. it is a 2 way street. By the sounds of it the work you are doing is not up to par anyway. It's not like they are going to go nuts over you either way.

you are asking about leaving and what will they do but what does it matter when you are leaving anyway. it's like you want them to kiss you a** but for what when all you have shown them is probation and shoddy work. Are they supposed to fawn all over you? I dont get it.

You don't think its obvious they know you are tanking it? What do you want them to do ? Not give you projects and set up an xbox in your office so you can chill? damn nerve asking you to work.

Come on they deserve better and it sounds like you do too. Stop being a baby waiting for them to apologize and realize how great you are when you aren't going to stay with them anyway. Just get over yourself ,and get to the place you are going ,get on it.

Tell them you got fired and call in sick at the other place while you are over at the other place getting set up. As much as you may not like your current employer this 'wait see' attitude is only going to make you look like crap when you dont try and are not there mentally. It can blow up on you anyway and leaves you not in control. You will be remembered as the guy who was on probation and didnt give a crap. Small world and you dont need that on your conscience. Try to really kill it at you current place, and mind you ps and qs but get out right now. You need to save face.

As for the counsel he may not know until morning of or that day they are going to lay off x number. Even then he is not going to be the one to tell you.

As for the probation thing what does 30 days matter? They can fire you whenever they want. Even if you are off probation that doesnt mean jack. The probation was actually a nice way of saying we are not going to axe you now but are actually giving you the opportunity to shoot yourself in your own foot.. Sounds like you were late or something like that? They figure they will hedge their bets and watch you flame. It's usually easier to not have to pay unemployment if the person resigns. So just a mechanism to slowly rid of deadweight while not having to pay. I feel bad for them that they have invested in you. have you ever stopped to think of it from the owners position? You are like yao ming this year, stealing money.

in regards to the new guy what does it matter that the position is yours? You dont want it. You seem to take business very personal when by the sounds of it you the person so far havent really offer up s***. Are they going to chase you down the street please no manny , great job manny , you can do it ! It reminds me of this one friend and I was trying to help him get a job. He turned in the resume and it was your normal teen grab bag of blockbuster video, joes crab shack, chilis , randalls variety. I mean this is what the guy actually had on his resume. I turned it in for him and then I asked him if he was going to call to follow up. He said that 'if they really want me they will call me' I can see it now the managers and big wigs sitting there salivating over my friend as they go through their options 'oh wait !what do we have here?..hmm steve jones.. let's see umm it says right here that he worked at Randalls and ... wait oh my god..wait for it.. this guy worked at joes crab shack !! He's our man !! get him on the phone I want to hire this guy right now!!' I mean are they supposed to care about you?

Yeah they care I know and so you don't care I get it. Just saying the relationship is pointless and you need to do something before someone/something else happens. You are either going to stay or go and sometimes if you sit on your hands too long it will really come back to bite you. Be proactive. Time is now. I would be treating it urgently while you still have a steady income. Dont let others dictate. As a lawyer told me just the other day.. 'the best defense is a good offense' stop playing defensively show some pride in your craft and accept that it didnt work , get over the fact that maybe you did suck and accept that but try to grow from that... leave with dignity and know that you will be able to rise to the top of the mountain with that company you know you should have never left.. But know that you are better for it,because of it.. and the experience will teach you to appreciate everything that much more. In a weird way, that makes it that much more worth it.

    IBTL,

I'm so glad that you were able to figure out everything about me and the history of my job performances from the very few posts in this thread. I am also glad that you think I am "tanking" it and "stealing money" from the company. Because you feel that way, how about you explaining that to my wife and daughter who witnessed me working close to 70 hours during Thanksgiving week and 55 hours the week after? Or how about the fact that their husband/daddy cannot take a vacation around Christmas time because of the volume of work that is coming in (I'm taking off only Thursday and Friday). It took me a good 3 years to finally decide to leave my old place - it was not an easy decision. So, it hasn't gone for the best at the new place; it hasn't been due to effort, it is just not a good fit.

But people like you are the reason why I don't post much about my personal life anymore. It's jackwagons like you that make me not want to post ever here again. But I am not going to go that far but will say that I am not going to talk any more about this subject. Hopefully, it will work out for me and my family and if not God will take care of us.

    fba,

Thanks for having my back - things will be okay.

yeah, this is all horsesh#t...the work through Jan means nothing, however, if the deadline came and went, just keep showing up...granted, its a paycheck and until they say don't come back, keep showing up...

I will say that in my experience, the probation period was just a gimmick to give them time to get things in order to fire you...you should know that you're in HR...they really don't expect you to improve, but if you do, win win? hardly, if you fail, then you're fired, if you kick arse and improve, good for you but who wants to work in that environment...IMHO, just get another job...

    good luck brother...
