I would feel worse for Oakland but it's not like they are lacking for sports teams nearby. It may just be that the Oakland era of sports is over.

For those of you living in Las Vegas, what is it like living there? I'd imagine a place like that would have lot of crime, and probably some pretty rough areas.

The A's are still better than the Rangers who spent a half a billion on 2 hitters in the off season

The A's traded off all their best players before the season and with them in tank mode and threatening to move why would people show up to watch a disaster.

MLB won’t charge A’s relocation fee if team moves to Vegas

    https://www.athleticsnation.com/202...ings-oakland-as-mlb-relocation-las-vegas-fees

Reporting for the New York Post, Josh Kosman brought forth the news that MLB has offered the A’s a special deal: if the team moves to Las Vegas they would not have to pay the usual relocation fee. The expectation currently is that the fee would be over one billion dollars, making this a huge get for penny-pinching A’s ownership

They're going to need that $1B to pipe in water.

MLB must really really really really hate Oakland.

MLB Likely Wants a Team in Las Vegas
Not having to pay a relocation fee suggests that the league either wants the team to move to Las Vegas or believes that Oakland has not given it a good reason to consider staying. Oakland is also considered a small market, while Las Vegas is both bigger in terms of potential local television audience, and also is a global city.

Having a team in Las Vegas puts MLB in front of people visiting from all over the world. It also brings the league to a place full of high rollers, spilling over with sponsorship dollars as all the major casino operators want to both bring in tourists to their properties and bring in users for the sports betting apps.

Major League Baseball dropping the relocation fee essentially is the league's way of welcoming Las Vegas into the league. It may take a few more months for an actual deal to be made, but betting on the Las Vegas Athletics being a thing soon enough is pretty safe money.

Oakland is not safe. Players might get attacked by hammer-wielding dudes in their underwear. [IMG]

This is D&D territory, but the A's aren't responsible to clean up the mess the city made

    https://www.sfgate.com/athletics/article/Manfred-talks-Oakland-Athletics-stadium-17543869.php

years, the As have wanted to build a park at Howard Terminal in Oakland and have proposed a $12 billion development plan that would include a new stadium. But as SFGATE reported earlier this year, a disagreement between the A’s and the city of Oakland over affordable housing units associated with the stadium plan could sink the Howard Terminal option.
