totally agree, it's all about value, we don't need another bad contract again. Unless you are Mavs or Knicks, and are willing to spend over 100mm on players.
The Rockets are looking and more and more like the Knicks every day. BTW the Rockets have a new logo to be unvelied tomorrow at the Battier press conference. "WIN NOW, as long as it's CHEAP."
Knick Rockets comparison, please, when we have 3 or 4 max contracts feel free to make the comparison.....nothing comes close to the disaster that is the NY Knicks
yeah, that will boost his value. Then he will opt out after 2 years and get himself paid. Can't really blame him.
I'm suprised a lot of ya'll are going off on management so hard. This might not be an exact duplicate, but is damn near close to a Beltran situation. The guy mouthed out so much that he wanted to play in his hometown, to be close to the family and be a car trip away from work. He said it wasn't necessarily about the money. He said he wanted to win a championship. And he said the Rockets trading him won't impact his decision. Well it was never about playing in his hometown, it was never about playing for a championship team (Dallas, Houston and Miami are a LOT closer than Minny), it was never about anything but $$$$. Yeah the Rockets could have offered him the fourth year, but the trade kicker is total BS. What kind of message does that send to Yao and TMac that he gets one but they didn't? The trade kicker proves he's bitter about being traded in the first place. He needs to understand its a business because he obviously doesnt? Who does he think he is demanding an essentially what amounts to a no-trade clause. He isn't a max player. And what happens if he underperforms or gets injured, and we can't trade him; the team will be screwed. Management was stupid in giving too much to Mooch, Cato, Maloney, Ward, etc but now there idiots because they decided not to do that here; to risk that? Plus it's obvious he didn't have much of a desire to play here outside of playing for the fans. In addition he has too much of an ego for the level of player he his. MeMac is more befitting this guy than Tracy. Do you want that kind of attitude in the locker room? That said, I would have liked to have him too (he would have been a great 3rd option) and am very curious about the direction of this franchise. And while we needed James, this situation speaks volumes to me as to some of the reasons we might be better of without him.
I meant the level of incompetence and stupidity. BTW, the Knicks actually do a better job of drafting.
If not for injuries no one would be complaining as much as they are now, exactly what excuse do the Knicks have for being terrible?
He is from Philly. And all he wanted is player's option and trade kicker after being shared by so many Johns. He's who he is and we need his skill set.
what are you trying to say? as long mavs didn't get him its okay? no because mavs didn't even need him but the rockets did.. or as long as the rockets didn't overpay? when damand is high and supply is low, prices go up.. howbout the battier trade? the rox did overpay memphis to get him you know..
I'm already a contributing member rookie so I have no problem giving to the site. I will fulfill my bet. Why don't you join me and contribute (I know you didn't lose a bet...but still)?
I think Battier is a solid player but we gave up too much for him. Blowing it on that trade has nothing to do with overpaying James though. Especially when we have no idea what management will do with the MLE or the TE.
So I guess as it stands now (with the players under contract). Alston/Sura? Tmac/Head Battier/Bowen Howard/Hayes/Novak Yao/Mutombo So now what with free agency? We DESPERATELY need depth in the back court. Keith Bogans... We probably need to resign him now. Bonzi Wells... NO. Won't accept the MLE. Marcus Banks... NO. He's another undersized guard that can't shoot. Who else is on the market?
By hometown I mean the town in which his current home is and that's Houston. He said he wanted to come back to houston play in his backyard. Well obivously that wasn't true. Or maybe it was in a "perfect world" sort of a way. If that's the case he should have been upfront and said 'I'd love to come back and play close to home, but Houston is gonna have to show me a LOT of love to do that'. We needed him, but not with the attitude he's showing. I want someone that truly wants to play for his team, that wants to go to war for his teamates, that doesn't care how many touches he gets as long as he can contribute in some way. I'm not getting that vibe from James so good riddance.
My sentiments as well. James is a risk at 5 years guaranteed for an aging 6'2 combo guard. I'd agree that was a little much with the reported trade kicker.
