The Megapacks can store electricity from any source but they are part of a package that Tesla is pushing for more power generation from Tesla roofs and storage to decentralize the power grid.

I get why a lot of people don't like Elon Musk and yes he's a narcissist and a weird guy but overall he is advancing technology and making available many of the things that people talk about wanting more available.

As someone who bought Tesla stock years ago he's done well for me personally considering that at the time there were many then who were doubting how well he might.

One interesting thing I noticed too is years ago most of the criticism of Musk and Tesla was coming from the Right. Many critics were downplaying Tesla success as a government funded boondoggles that would fall apart and Musk himself as a huckster. Now most of the criticism of him and Tesla seems to be from the Left as a lot of what he was talking about 10 years ago is coming through.

Maybe in the very short term (generalizing beyond Telsa). But once there is an energy storage technology that is reliable, scalable, and sustainable, there is no need for real-time inefficient energy any longer. That may still exist as an emergency backup, but not much more than that. As Musk often said, the sun is free - first principle.
