Yeah, watching two lifelong Astros, in the free agency era, entering the HoF would be absolutely terrible.

No idea why Bagwell was included in that.

You know Biggio is going to give 110%, really battle out there at the podium & take it one induction speech at a time, though. That's baseball, if the breaks don't go his way, he'll just go out and take care of business the next speech.

    Hypothetical scenarios:

    ------------------------------------------

    1. Biggio comes back, gets 3,000 hits but Astros miss the playoffs

    2. Biggio isn't resigned, goes somewhere else, gets 3,000 hits there, but Astros make the playoffs and lose somewhere (first round, 2nd round, WS)

    3. Biggio isn't resigned, goes somewhere else, gets 3,000 hits there, but Astros make the playoffs and win the WS

    -------------------------------------------

My order of preference would be: 3,1,2

Of course it would be great if the Stros could win the WS with Biggio getting his 3,000 hits. But short of some serious offseason moves, I see no reason why they even make the playoffs next year at this point, much less make the playoffs to lose in one of the rounds.

Chances of Astros winning the WS next year...I'd say 10% max. Chances of Biggio getting his 3,000 hit next year - maybe 95%? Injuries aside, he's having a pretty bad year this year and still has 121 hits.

I'd definitely take a World Series win over a 3,000 hit player, but don't see it happening regardless.

As Buck pointed out, they're not exactly known for their eloquence. Bagwell will at least provide some candor, but neither make a great interview. I would advise each to hire a speechwriter.

Maybe, but on that stage, that won't be cringe worthy. It'll be one of the proudest days to be an Astros fan.

Wouldn't miss it for anything. You've got a place to crash in Saratoga if you can make it.

I will be there, no doubt.

As good a time as any for my daughter's first trip to Cooperstown!

I thought the same thing about my son. He'll be 1 in a couple of weeks. He should be 7 when it happens. Shame I won't be able to take him to Yankee Stadium by then. I believe the new one opens in 2009.

I would think he would easily get picked up by a lot of teams if the asking price was right. He would get used as a back up, utility type guy that could start 50 games for you if you have injuries, pinch hit, play outfield, first or second. Heck, I'd love to see him in that kind of role for the Astros for a couple of years if he could handle being bench guy after he gets 3,000.

He seem like the kind of guy to me that would be productive in a reduced role. Too much plate experience, still has pop in the bat, and he's not fast on the basepaths, but he's not slow either. If he didn't have the wear and tear of a full year, he'd continue to be productive.

Heck, I've alwasy thought that he could have done extremely well if he went to the American league as a DH. He could still be hitting .280, with 25 HRs, and 80 RBI as a DH if that was his job the last 2 years or so. I think its obvious that Biggio wears down during the year and that results in poor second half numbers.

It looks like he will be back.....he needs 84 hits to get there. If he gets 21 hits a month, he should do it in July and then go to the bench.

Would dwarf the pain of the Express getting #'s 6 and 7 and 1000 more K's elsewhere. And that damn Rangers cap in Cooperstown.

McClain and Purpura may be idiots a lot of the time but I guarantee they aren't going to let Biggio where another teams uni, EVER!!
