I keep seeing the trailers. . . and it looks so . . . depressing I am unfamiliar with the story but . . . not something I wanted to see on Christmas Rocket River
watched it last night, and really liked it. I'm a big fan of the musical in London and the movie did a great adaptation of it onto the screen. I think Hooper tried to give more close ups because that's something that you will simply never get when watching in a theatre. longer bit about les mis: Spoiler The bits that I loved: great scenes filmed in one shot, like Hathaway's I dreamed a dream and On my Own Marius is really more than a love-struck idiot Jackman surprised me with his voice, I didn't think he would be able to reach those high notes because it's a film, and they took the songs very softly, it actually made you think about the words in it more (for me anyway) the extra scenes were really interesting, were they originally in the script for the musical and were taken out, or were they new songs for the film? the bad: - hated how they toned down the power of some of the songs, like on my own (barks is a great singer, and they didn't really give her justice on that song). - Russell crowe = meh
Saw it last night. Not my favorite story but the music was so catchy. Been humming "Do you hear the people sing" all morning.
My sister saw it tonight and said she hated it and if she doesn't like it then I feel like there's zero possibility of me liking it. About what percentage of the lines in the movie are sung?
I love it when people go see a movie and don't know jacksquat about it. "What percentage of the lines"....? It's LES MISERABLES. I remember people walking out on "Chicago". The commercials for that movie were careful not to let on it was a musical. Basically, if you like Broadway/London (West End?) musicals, you'll like this movie. If you don't? Pffft. Not your movie.
I saw the 2010 Musical Concert, 25th Anniversary in my English 2 class during the Fall Semester. It was weird because they didn't have the storyline or acting, it was just pure singing, so it was hard to know much about the plot without looking it up or wikipediaing it which is what I did. My teacher kept telling everyone in class how this movie was coming out and how it was a big deal since big time stars are in it. Anyways, I don't think I'm going to see this movie. The story is kind of sad and it's too centered around god/religion for me.
For those who watched and are familiar with the musical ,here's my question: Spoiler So I take a peek on the ost album,is the song"do you hear the ppl sing" is included, bcos it's not in the ost
some ppl mit be turned off by it.i mentioned it to one of my friends and it turned him off bcos he doesnt listen to the genre .Even though he likes classical music very much.
A sung-from-start-to-finish musical definitely isn't for everyone. I do think this director's love of closeups is a little much---you can almost count the pores and the boogers (okay, no, the makeup person took care of that; but if Peter Jackson had filmed this in 48 FPS, LOL...)---but still, a good film.
i really liked the movie. never read the book or seen the play but knew some of the songs going in. master of the house was probably the overall highlight for me, really well done and funny. didn't realize until valjean and javert sang their first two lines to each other that every single line was going to be sung. well the title kinda gives that away. not knowing much about this (just read the wikipedia synopsis once a year or so ago), i didn't realize what a big theme this would be.
I thought Crowe was actually pretty good. I liked his version of Stars and the Confrontation. The suicide was kind of weak, but I think overall his performance has been taking too much criticism.
Saw this one... Crowe was great... but the movie has plot holes... like why did they think it was a good idea to have a child on the front line? Either way, the story is all over the road and the love story was weak. Oh, and everyone in France apparently spoke with a British accent.
1) That's not a plot hole.... 2) Clearly the movie just wasn't for you. It's one of the most widely acclaimed musicals of all time.
