yeah it would be interesting to see more sets with him and Smith in the game. I think Smith is best off the bench but would be intersting to see both clogging the lane
Asik better stay healthy.....Greg Smith is impressing. It may just be me but he looks alittle better than Asik. Albeit it's in a small sample... but Greg is looking like the best big on the floor when he is playing....if he was a high draft pick people would already be saying he is the next so & so. Not to take anything from Asik cause he is better than advertised and have alot of room for growth. I know if I was a team on the other end of trading with us he is who I would try and steal from the rockets for dirt cheap. I say if Greg could work more on his footwork (its already good) and his a solid mid range jumper..I say he is the player most rockets clamoring for this offseason... not Milsap, Josh, Gasol....GREG SMITH!
Unfortunately Smith's range is so limited. If we played Asik and Smith together for more than a few minutes, one of those two will be unguarded if he is more than 10 feet from the basket. There is only so much room around the hoop.
Wasnt thinking playing them together....moreso wondering how well would Greg do if he took over a few games....Would he be so impressive you couldn't bench him (ala the 49ers situation). Again, not knocking Omer....but it seems Greg had was more confidence than him...I see Omer letting the game get to him quite often where as it seems Greg isnt fazed nor intimidated by anything. Yet is so young and raw. All in all....I love this Rockets team....teams are going to be left shellshocked wondering wth??....this team is freaking LOADED wuth potential.....
against lakers and celtics unguarded against grizzlies garbage time I don't know how on earth you can think Smith is the better player
Asik is a beast on the defensive end and is showing flashes of a solid offensive skill set with some of the plays that are going his way recently. My favorite offseason move so far has to be getting him, I am just sad that we only locked him into a 3 year contract.
I don't think he's a better player either, he's pretty darn good for the player we need him to be though. Asik right now is obviously better all around with room to continue to improve. Asik reminds me a little of Yao early on when it was scary at times to see him receive an entry pass because you weren't sure if he'd fumble the ball and turn it over. If he can improve his handling, he's a consistent threat on both ends. As for Smith, yes he's performing well against teams who don't know yet how to guard him.....there isn't enough film on him yet. They'll adjust and figure him out more as he continues to be a threat. So he's numbers will go down, BUT he's also very young, hard working, and lots of natural talent to boot. He'll continue to grow and make adjustments himself. I'd be thrilled if he turned out to be a Carl Landry type that plays bigger
That essentially means Morey would have to offer him a contract (offer sheet) worth 39.4M/4Y at the very least. 2012-13 5,000,000 2013-14 5,225,000 2014-15 14,898,937 2015-16 between 14,288,080 (4.1% lower than 14-15)& 15,569,389 (4.1% higher than 14-15) A 39.4M/4Y ~ 40.6M/4Y deal, 10M per year counted against Houston's cap due to that "Gilbert Arena rule". In hindsight, it may not look as bad as it seems. But I don't think Morey would like to add another 2m to team salary per year that will hamper the Rockets' cap flexibility to offer another max contract when the opportunity comes. Besides, the Rockets will have his full bird-right once his current one expires, so resigning him will not be a problem as long as the Rockets want to. my 2 cents.
It's OK. Kidding, of course (and those were Asik's words; not mine ). Goes to show what a humble and great guy he is. I also like how he quietly gets the job done and is now averaging a double-double on the season. Map props to Morey for the signing.
Totally sang that in the Yao Ming song voice <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/T0Ve5j7w26I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I was dead wrong about this guy and being so wrong never felt this good. The only thing I'm worried about are his minutes. I know he's young and doesn't have a lot of miles but I hope he doesn't get burnt out or injured. We're going to need him to be healthy down the stretch.
Omer Asik for DPOY? Is that to much? Is there anybody that has stood out defensively thus far. Tyson Chandler & the Knicks have been a poor defensive team. Omer just outplayed Noah twice who some thought he was the early DPOY candidate. Maybe KG with Boston is in the running. LBJ is always there as well. Tim Duncan I think has to be there Spurs D has been top 10. Howard is unhealthy don't know how good LAL D will end up becoming. If the Rockets improve there D (fingers crossed) I think I could see this happening. I just want Asik to win something so that everybody out there that scoffed his contract can suck it. ;P
dont exactly agree with u, yea on offense gsmith has more potential and is already more polished than omer but asik is light years better on dfense and is such an important piece of this teams success on d. it allows everyone else to gamble on d and get those steals that lead to easy buckets. just my take
Voters will look at PPG allowed by the Rockets. Also, Omer's blocks are down, and that's another thing they tend to look at for centers. Josh Smith might one of the stronger candidates.
