Anthony Davis is the poster child for this. I don’t know what it is but it’s never the dudes fault. It’s everyone else’s. His teams have always been bad or mediocre, shuffle his cast around, and the results still don’t show. Even more mind blowing is people putting him in Top 5 NBA players. Are there others? Jimmy Tomball? Paul George?
Fair enough, but you can’t say Steph has been unsuccessful. It’s been beaten to death, but this definitely applies to Westbrook. He loses in the first round year after year, but everyone talks about his “heart” and “killer instinct.”
Paul George doesn't belong here. Every team he's been on he has made better and has had some level of success.
Kevin Garnett seems like an obvious answer. Maybe Chris Webber - he actually had a good enough team, but got completely ****ed by the refs, in an extremely suspicious way. Wouldn't be surprised if all the footage of those 2002 WC Finals was copy-striked from youtube.
That's quite the thread title. Nice! Russ #1 and AD #2. AD's at least made it to the 2nd round with tier 2 stars/role players. Russ... Did nothing with Oladipo. Harden with Dwight and Josh Smith made it to WCF. We got killed so Harden's a choker. The bars are set lower for Russ and AD. The bar for Harden is championship or bust.
Media calls Harden a choker but they forget about Westbrook. Dude was on the same team when they went to the nba finals right?! Then choked along side Durant against the warriors. He got knockout of the first round. And he had Adams, George, brewer and Melo.
Davis is certainly a very strange case. Everyone has putting him on top 5 lists and potential MPVs for years and years, but the other side of the same coin, the personal responsibillity for the success of his teams, always is overlooked. Maybe it's because he plays on a small market that noone pays much attention and fans and analysts all can't wait for him to leave but it is definitely double standards.
Rose been ridiculed for years... I think if James Harden switched to Nike he would be media puppy, I think it has a lot to do with brands. If u think about it Westbrook, Davis, Durant gets their media love tripled when they do something good, and minimized when doing something bad
Dominique Wilkins Tiny Archibald Alex English Adrian Dantley (but many point to his style of play) Carmelo Anthony (same as above) Reggie Theus (same as above) George McGinnis Oscar Robertson (Celtics Dynasty)
The only superstars in the league who are expected to win a chip are Harden and Lebron. That’s it. Everyone else gets a pass. Giannis could flame out in the first round and no one would bat an eye. If Harden did it? Lebron?
Yet somehow he's the second leading vote getter for guards (behind only Steph Curry) to make the All-Star game, based on fan votes. That may have been true in years past, but at this moment, he is absolutely inspiring sympathy.
The only one that comes to mind is Anthony Davis. The next person up who will be talked about like he's a star but can't win (yet no one will talk about it) is KAT.
