Best fps is Operation Flashpoint. I LOVE this game . Picked it up a week ago and find it hard to leave alone. The realism and intensity is amazing. The maps are HUGE and very realistic. You can also drive all types of vehicles.. tanks ,fly helicopters, planes ..etc.. They are supposed to come out with a GOTY edition soon and I'll definitely buy it ... I haven't played 1942 but it would be hard to match this game. I hated Flashpoint. Dunno why, it just didn't do it for me. In bombing run, it's kindof a football/deathmatch combo. There are two teams -- red and blue. Each side has a goal, which is basically a vertical hoop through which the ball can either be run or thrown. When you start the game, the ball is at the center of the arena, and each team goes for it. You then have to fight your way to the other team's goal using the different guns in UT. There are typically 4 to 6 players per team. The person carrying the ball (you can tell because it's a big sphere that encompases the player) can't shoot anyone, but can pass the ball to other players, and fire it in random directions. The first team to 30 wins. Running it through the hoop is worth 7, throwing it is worth 3. There are variations with it, such as "instagib" (one shot frag) and low gravity. It's really awesome, and I'd suggest that anyone who hasn't played it do so. I just played another great game where I was the only one guarding our goal, and the entire blue team came with the ball. We were tied at 27. I nailed the guy with the ball, and one other blue player, then got fragged myself. By then my teammates had arrived and they started taking care of blue -- we threw the ball away (there is a pit around your goal, and if the ball falls in there, it is reset to the middle of the arena), and within 3 minutes we took it in for the winning score.
Fellas. I just downloaded the demo. I'd love to play some Bombing Run with you fellas. How do I do it? Vengeance - I am the Halo master. Your ass is mine.
I don't know about this bombing run, but CTF is a blast I still think we need to set-up weekly pick-up games for BF, or UT!!
That gives a whole new meaning to the Skins' Fun-n-Gun offense. Sounds a little like Quidditch, actually. I loved UT so I'll check it out.
Does anyone know the specs on UT 2003? I dont know if my computer will run it or not. What video card works the best with it?
You'll need a GF2 or up to get a feel for the the eye candy, I think. I have heard of people getting voodoo3's to run the demo, however. I think it recommends a gigahertz machine for the game and (as a guess) 256 MB ram.
keeley - You up for a game? I was sniping on some CTF game and it gave me "Wicked Amazing" or something. Beyond Godlike. Lemme know. Im BigA835 on AIM.
http://www.pcgameworld.com/story.php/id/566/ Demand for the demo cuts the speed of the Internet worldwide by half. Atari today announced that the trial version of Unreal Tournament 2003 has already become one of the most popular game demo debuts of all time with nearly 1.2 million downloads between its debut last Friday night, September 13 and Wednesday, September 18. Unreal Tournament 2003 is developed by Digital Extremes in conjunction with Epic Games. The four level demo showcases the all new gameplay and graphics included in the follow-up to 1999's Game of the Year winner, Unreal Tournament. "Fans were waiting for the next big thing in action gaming, and the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo was just what they were looking for," said Jean-Philippe Agati, senior vice president and head of Infogrames, Inc.'s Los Angeles studio. "We couldn't be happier with the popularity of the title. The new game completely lives up to its Game of the Year heritage. Digital Extremes and Epic have done it again!" According to statistics tracked by Web sites offering the demo, nearly 1.2 million users accessed the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo between Friday night and Wednesday morning. The global Internet 'Traffic Index,' which tracks how fast information is transferred through the Internet, took a sizeable hit when the demo was released on September 13. As a result of so many people downloading the file, the average speed of the Internet worldwide was cut nearly in half. "After the long hard hours the team spent working on this game it's really gratifying for us to see so many people so eager to play what we've created," said James Schmalz, founder and creative director of Digital Extremes. "It's great to see the incredible reaction we've gotten to the innovations in gameplay that we've added to the sequel. It confirms what we set out to do in evolving the game to the next level." "It's great to see the community that loved Unreal Tournament embrace the new iteration of the franchise in such overwhelming numbers," said Tim Sweeney, founder of Epic Games. "I can't wait to deliver the full version of the game and watch the community strengthen and expand as competitions, LAN parties and new, innovative mods are born from the new technology." Unreal Tournament 2003 is scheduled for release this Fall and will be published by Atari. The game will feature more than 30 environments, and nearly 50 unique characters. With new game modes like Bombing Run and Double Domination, as well as an all new graphics engine that leaves all other games looking dated, Unreal Tournament 2003 is set to be a major player in multiplayer action gaming. Nomar - we'll see. I pre-ordered the game but I won't play it like I played UT (read... way too much). That's my read on the game at this point, anyway. There were lots of problems with the webadmin features that shipped with the demo - you couldn't password your server nor change admin user/password without changing the command line, thus requiring you to restart the server. If they get that fixed in the server-only release, which Epic said would be ready when the game ships, then I'll have a passworded server up within a few days or so.
I enjoyed playing the maps on UT that came later...those bathroom and bedroom maps are fun to play. I wonder how difficult it'll be for the computer wiz's out their to make their own maps? os
UT2003 is in stores now. My brother picked it up and likes it. He says there are some really nice maps. The players seem smaller and it has a different feel to it. I'll probably pick up a copy tomorrow. os
