You know the Beatles, that band that was heavily influenced by The Monkeys. . . . .. Man I love dumb and dumber
Ok, talking about bands not so many people might know - does anyone know Alan Parson's Project? Does anyone know The Rah Band?
Dude I work at the Mucky Duck. Hurry and get those tix, they're goin' at quite a pace, especially for a show 'bout 4 months away!
If I hear a song, and I like it, then I like the band. And I couldn't give a rat's ass if it's 'popular' or not. Or if it gets radio time, or whatever. Too many people like to hate stuff because of the brand name, and nothing else. Because the music 'sucks' is also invalid, because its a personal matter. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it sucks. I guess if something sells millions of copies, everyone else has bad taste, whereas you - for trashing it - are a saint who can rise above the uneducated masses. And it works both ways. For example; I don't care how many copies it sells, or how popular it becomes or is now - I'm stills gonna likes me my Incubus.
All of you who are saying "oh yeah you hate pop music you loser boo hoo i dont care what you think" ahhh shut the hell up. I don't give a monkey shlt what you think either. Nobody's saying that they hate pop music, read the title. What I'm saying is, why is it that even though a band isn't selling well, I still like em. It all boils down to good music, and the fact is, most music on the airwaves suck. It's not about music anymore, it's about the industry trying to make megabucks, or finding the "next Nirvana", or the disturbing recent trend of "create-a-Britney". The point of this thread was me trying to find out about bands that I otherwise wouldn't have heard of, due to lack of play on radio or MTV or the magazines or whatever. I'm sorry my thread title confused you so much. For examples of excellent replies to this thread, see Manny and Raven Lunatic. And yes, I am cool for not liking Creed.
Try these Rock Bands: From Zero Simon Says Boy Hits Car 40 Below Summer Nonpoint(You might have heard of them)
Actually, I know far more people who won't give a band the time of day unless its on a Clear Channel radio station or MTV. There have been plenty of times in my life when I've tried to introduce my friends, fellow students or co-workers to some really great band only to have them say condescendingly "Who? Never heard of them" and show no interest in hearing the band (unless of course the same band hits it big later, in which case they jump right on the bandwagon). The reason most of us "music snobs" hate the "brand name" bands is because we've actually exposed ourselves to music other than the 20-odd songs on MTV and radio and know there's better stuff out there. Musical taste may be subjective but there are certain objective aspects to music. There are plenty of bands that I don't like (Frank Zappa for instance) who I am well aware don't suck. But if you are a derivative hack (Creed) with nothing original to express (Creed), you suck.
I listen to pretty much any & all genre's of music The Hollisters - too bad they broke up, awesome rock/country band. Clifton Chernier - the "King of Zydeco", if you don't like traditional zydeco, check out Beau Jocque & the Zydeco Hi-Rollers ("Git It Beau Jocque" is the best album of his I've heard). Old & In the Way - That High Lonesome Sound - Jerry Garcia, Dave Grisman, Pete Rowan & Vasser Clemens's bluegrass band from the early 70's Stan Getz/Joao Gilberto - Live at Carnegie Hall #2 - one of the 2 or 3 best jazz concert albums I've heard. Astrud Gilberto sings on 5 or 6 songs, she has quite possibly the most beautiful voice ever. Brand New Heavies - Heavy Rhyme Vol. 1 - Heavies provide the funk, guests (Gang Starr, Tribe Called Quest etc...) provide the lyrics. Alice in Chains - Sap - little 6 song acoustic-ish EP, Chris Cornell sings on a song or 2 Fugazi - 13 Songs Johnny Cash Live at San Quintin Prison Miles Davis - b****'s Brew Dr. John - "Right Place, Wrong Time" might be the greatest song ever written almost anything by Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, or Merle Haggard. and, of course, Tenacious D.
