Still leading. Maintain it, Joe Two consecutive outings surrendering a score, and 3 of 4. He still "look okay" overall in the bully.
Don't worry, we've been preparing for the playoffs by scoring one run or less off scrubby starters too for the past month. Just to get our pitchers used to having no run support and no margin for error.
There are advantages to both guys at SS, but I would like them switched, but that isn't going to happen as Correa is a HOF talent, and Bregman isn't right now. It isn't like Bregman has the defensive rep that Simmons or Lindor has, as some scouts didn't like him at SS.
I doubt that at this point. Great defensive OF's are great because they have great instincts. They get good natural reads, and quick jumps. It isn't really a teachable thing. It's the reason a guy like Andruw Jones is the greatest CF ever, despite having only good not great speed. Routes can be improved to a degree, but 4 years in and it's still a common observation that he struggles with it. On top of that his arm is not good at all, another thing that can't be improved. His defensive metrics actually aren't terrible at all, so maybe his great speed is compensating, but he visibly struggles and I'm not sure how much that can be improved.
I prefer the Bill James way of thinking... that if the metrics aren’t matching up with the eye test, then the metrics are probably wrong. Defensive metrics are pretty inconsistent at measuring a player’s true defensive prowess. Fisher has not looked good at all, and that includes him playing LF in MMP, where even Carlos Lee was able to survive out there. As of now, he’s looking at being a future DH... but his bat is going to have to come around at a much faster rate for him to be in consideration for an everyday job. Preston Tucker 2.0?
I would say his speed compensates for a lot. He takes horrible routes, but still makes a decent number of plays despite that his routes look like the scribblings of a 4-year old. He still isn't good, will likely never be good defensively, and is going to look horrible on a few plays. I would not put him the bottom quarter of LFs defensively; though I would say skill-wise he is. His speed should keep him from being truly horrible for a few years.
