I see where you're coming from, but you can't really think that this team is going to go 2-14, right?

It's not like we were blown out last night. After that horrible first play, we played them to a 10-10 tie. And the Vikings, along with having one of the best defenses in the league, are probably going to win their division this year.

Some of the posts in this thread remind me of how we felt after the Steeler loss last year. The sky was falling because we lost to the eventual Superbowl champions in their home opener. Except this is a PRESEASON game...

This is the same team that finished the year on a 5-1 streak last year and after an 0-4 start, finished 8-4. And added some pretty good pieces in Cushing, Smith, and Barwin. Not to mention Dunta eventually coming back.

I know we will have problems this year (keeping Schaub healthy being at #1), but come on. It's WAY too soon to be talking about boycotting games this year, don't ya think?

You guys are acting like your team didn't even show up and got annihilated at home by the Saints in a preseason game.

    Oh, right.

The Saints have really destroyed some hopes this preseason.

By far the biggest weakness has been the tackling, and arguably two of the three most physical players the Texans have (Cushing, Robinson) are out. I think there's reason to believe it will turn around when those two guys come back. That said, this team's bizarre reluctance to invest anything in the safety positions shows.

No I don't think they're going 2-14. I have them winning the Super Bowl. :) Seriously, I THINK/HOPE they're a playoff team. At least close.

I'm not boycotting games...I just didn't have fun watching....I think I get too into it. At one point I literally thought to myself, "I'm doing this for fun..right?" And switched over to watch the 'stros and baby bears.

The Astros are my favorite team....whether they're winning or losing, I can watch them and enjoy it. Maybe it's the pace of baseball or that baseball means more to me than football does....but I can watch and not blow up in most circumstances. But I have a hard time doing that with the Texans. That's not really on the Texans..it's on me.

i hear ya...and i don't mean to be so kneejerk.

I don't know the answer to this question...but I DO know that the answer ISN'T "during the 3rd preseason game".

And yeah, you were tired of watching the Texans play bad....so you switched over to the Astros?? Wow...

    ;) (sort of..)

Geez. We lost by 7 to one of the best teams in the NFL in the preseason. Get over it.

Don't look at the scoreboard, look at the play. The defense looked light years ahead of last week (minus the first run which can be attributed to freakish spead of AP) ... Frank Bush unveiled some of his aggressiveness finally. I've never seen this team with so much movement on the front seven. We were actually BLITZING! And not just everybody run forward blitzes, but guys stunting and confusing the offense. We got pressure against a great o-line, and all things considered contained the best running game in the NFL (minus the first run again).

Obviously in the regular season we can't allow those big plays, as that was the difference in the game. But lots of positives to take out of it...hell, it would've been 13-10 if Eugene Wilson had actually tried to tackle Taylor at the end of the half, rather than half-ass shoving him in the chest. He was the most discouraging player of the night.

And again, the offense will be fine. That is the hardest team in the NFL to run against. I'm also sure we were on a limited play selection. No sense in tipping off our regular season opponents.

Ric- we beat Tennessee last year, and held our own against the Colts TWICE last year. No reason to chalk those up as losses automatically.

I can understand ric's disappointment, one would seem to expect more level headed conversation on a site like this. but sometimes guys like him forget that people are still fans, and for some people, they don't get into the nuts and bolts of the analysis.

I hate the condescension of some folks on this site, in this particular section, in texans and astros talk, who look down on others for their knee jerk reactions. sure it can be frustrating, but when you spend hours everyday looking at sports, or it’s even how you make your living, don't be so cynical of the average fan.

 EVERYONE was complaining about the lack of talent on those teams and the terrible moves Casserly made - that's why people were thrilled when he was ditched. QB was the most glaring hole and the most obvious target, but no one was saying "oooh, we're set at WR with Jabar Gaffney!" or "random-scrub RB of the year is all we need!" or "our defense is awesome!"

You just couldn't see it because everytime you saw the words "David Carr", you went into crazy-defense mode and stopped reading what the rest of people were saying.

i explained the whole thing about the astros. i've said here a bunch of times, they're totally different to me.

i'm not disappointed yet...i know full well it's a preseason game. but ric is suggesting we're likely on our way to a 7-9 season again, unless we can get lucky. or at least that's how i interpreted that last paragraph. sorry, but i'll be disappointed with 7-9. i hope it's ok with everyone.

i wouldn't have felt better if somehow the 4th quarter preseason gang had pulled out a win against their 4th quarter preseason gang. the scoreboard isn't why some are concerned.

One thing I did NOT like about the game last night was calling that stupid naked bootleg play. We already have a gimpy QB, why does Kubiak feel the need to continually put him on an island like that?

One time, Allen gets a clean look at Schaub (did everyone else cringe while watching that play unfold?) and the other time, Schaub sprains his ankle running out of bounds.

Seriously, can we just take that play out of the playbook and burn it?

Good point, Kubiak probably runs it because the naked boot was Elway's bread and butter.

Schaub isn't exactly suited to throw off the run.

No matter what people say, Brett Favre is still better than most quarterbacks in the league right now, and clearly better than Schaub. With Minnesota's defense and their running game, they have to be a favorite to win it all if everyone stays healthy. I guess receiver is a bit of a question mark, but other than that, this is a very solid team.

Darn straight. Dirty cheap SOB. A nice Brady-esque knee injury will do nicely.

Not that concerned with last night's loss. We're missing 90% of our team, so no biggie. With that being said though, I didn't realize Minnesota was so good defensively last year. I was pretty frustrated after the game with our inept offense but then again it wasn't against a slouch of a team defensively either. I thought our defense played particularly well after the Peterson drive.
