I didn't like favre much before. Really, I was indifferent. The guy wants to play, fine with me. But last season, he literally cost me what could have been thousands of dollars in that s**tter of a game against Denver at home (took Denver to lose in a Loser's Pool...same thing as Pun's Survivor, but you pick the loser each week and the overall pot was $110,000. I was in the last 30 out of 1100). Then this block tonight just put him on level of karl malone as far as I'm concerned.

    F**K brett F**KING favre!

By the way, I don't have an issue with capitalization of names. It's my own sad little protest against certain players and teams I don't like (malone, favre, jazz, cowboys, the mexican national team, etc.).

Say it, you know you are thinking it: this team looks poorly coached. If this team has another .500 or losing year, another coach and his staff are gone. The Texans don't look like anything close to a playoff's team, not even close.

correct me if i'm wrong, but last week we faced the number 1 offense and tonight it was the number 2 defense (correction: they were number 6 total, but 1 against the run) according to last year. i'm willing to give them some leeway until Week 1 against the Jets.

DeMeco Ryans was an absolute force in the middle tonight.

The Texans have an extremely talented, young core on both sides of the ball to build around.

DeMeco Ryans, Brian Cushing, and Xavier Adibi are going to wreak havoc upon opposing quarterbacks for years to come.

Mario Williams is a physical specimen, and he has recently established himself as an elite edge-rusher in the league. Amobi Okoye, who's one of the youngest players on the roster, still has room to improve, and Connor Barwin has looked promising in the first three pre-season games.

Our secondary is still the weak point of the team, but Kubiak and the boys will strongly consider drafting a play-making DB (Eric Berry of Tennessee, Taylor Mays of USC, Morgan Burnett of Ga. Tech) in the first round of the draft next year.

On offense, how can you not be excited about a dedicated, 2nd-year back who rushed for over 1,000 yards in his rookie season, and another 2nd-year rising star in mammoth tackle Duane Brown. Andre, who's approaching 30 years old, is in his prime and is considered one of the top WR's in the game. We'll have to pursue another young, go-to-guy at the WR position in the near future, possibly next year.

Schaub's a steady hand at QB, but I'm still waiting to see if he can avoid the injury bug and compete at a high level for the entire season.

We're a couple of pieces away from making a strong push in the playoffs.

Personally, unless Schaub is completely destroyed this season and we draft one of those highly sought after QBs that are going to be out next draft, our first and main draft goal should be a DT.

Without more penetration or someone to stuff the run, our secondary will be abused no matter who we put back there. Hell, technically all the guys we have at DT right now are all undersized, we need a Neutral tackle guy to stall or help bowl over offensive linemen more then any other position. We got the defensive ends but if that middle doesn't hold, we will get out ran or have our ends doubled every game.

Anyway, it seemed a good game from what I saw. A big mistake here or there, but nothing really consistent and I think our linebackers helped with the run fairly well. It is sad though that so many guys other then Barwain, Ryans and Williams still have problems getting tackles or wrapping guys up on first contact.

Sucks about Schaub, Walter, and Leach. Slaton has not been real impressive so far, but you can see the strength helped him get that TD rush. Foster looked pretty nice in limited reps.

Our first unit needs to put more points on the board. It seemed like we were a bit conservative out there, especially at the beginning.

I would prefer to pass first to set up the run against a stout rushing defense, like the Vikings.

Kubes is gonna think run first, and will do so until he retires. Regardless of the disparity between a team's rush defense and its pass defense.

The game and the outcome all look familiar to me. Are we talking about playoffs?
What playoffs...., I just hope we can win a game.

Reading this thread, I'm wondering if I watched the same game as some of you. We didn't look THAT bad.

Yes, the tackling was bad, but after that first run, the defense actually picked it up. Got some decent pressure on the QB and improved against the run as the game when on. Only plays that really hurt us were their screen plays. Need to fix that.

Offense wasn't that bad. They couldn't establish the run, but you will find that most teams are going to have trouble establishing the run against the Vikings this year. I loved the drive before halftime. Picture perfect 2-minute drive. Also, we actually scored a TD in the red zone!!

The thing I liked best about this game was the play of Duane Brown. I saw him corkscrew Allen into the turf a couple of times. I think Allens only sack was that boneheaded bootleg play when he didn't bite on the fake. Seriously, the kid seems to be getting a little better every game.

Agree with you on most. The defense did get better, but the tackling seemed to only get worse as the game went one. Eugene Wilson has been in the NFL for 7 seasons. WTF kind of p**sy attempt at a tackle was that on Chester Taylor? Even Pop Warner kids know to wrap up.

There certainly were some positives, but there is a ton to work on in the next 2 weeks. Slaton has to get going. The defense has to not have these mental lapses. This game proved that all it takes is one f*** up. Take that play away and it's 10-10.

G-d help this team if Schaub goes down. Orlovsky is terrible.

I agree, after the initial AP run it seemed that we handled ourselves pretty well minus the tackling. Started slow on "O" but the 2nd Quarter was alot better with Matt just finding receivers at will. OD look good so did AJ, kinda getting a bit worried about SS but its preseason so not freaking out to much. Dan O. didn't look that bad especially on the bomb to AJ wasn't he 7-7 or something like that? Overall it was an ok game just need to get the tackling down, run the ball better and hopefully improve our interior "D"

Also Ryans is going to blow up this year, the dude was a monster being all over the field making plays!

Duane Brown comes exactly as advertised, very athletic for a left tackle, the way he caught up on allen after initially getting beat on some plays was very impressive. very mobile for the big guy.

the dline wasn't that bad after the first play, still relying too much on the linebackers. compare that to minnesota's dline who tied up slaton on almost every run up the middle.

At least you didn't pay him top-notch backup money.

it's funny, i read a post this morning - i believe in the travis johnson thread - bemoaning the lack of talent acquired during the casserly era. the poster said it was like kubiak inherited an expansion team... which is what i was saying three years ago. but no one wanted to talk about that then - no, not when david carr needed to be run out of town, not when the franchise was making the biggest mistake in the entire history of all-time by passing on bush/baby vince....

the point isn't to blue myself - but to use the post as an example of what's happening to fan culture these days. anger and venom fuel the first and most prevalent reactions, often obscuring - and eventually snuffing out any degree of rational thought. it happens over and over and over.... and if you dare try to inject some reality into the discussion that's not first dipped in a batter of vitriol, you're going to be accused of talking like a ***, and that your ****'s all r****ded. let's head to buttf***ers for a burger!

so no one should be shocked by knee-jerk overreactions of near-biblical proportions about a preseason loss. and, frankly - they shouldn't be overly surprised if the team is once again in the 7-9-win range. (though they will be, in full force.) 10 is possible with the easier schedule, but they still can't beat tennessee and indianapolis - that's presumably 4 losses right there, meaning they have to go 10-2 against the rest of the league, which isn't going to be easy with a suspect defense and a QB that is very nearly reaching can't-be-counted-on status.
