There were a handful of bright spots, but it's nearly impossible to remember them amongst the veritable truckload of errors and gaffes.

That wasnt a good game by any means...but it is the preseason...this is the whole point of it all. We figure out what we are doing wrong and work to correct it. Better now than in week 3.

I agree. While they pretty much sucked on all levels of defense, it's only the preseason. There were some positives to come out the game like no major injuries, Troy Nolan continuing to impress, Steve Slaton's kick returning skills, and Dan Orlovsky showing some signs of being a competent backup.

The 'positives' you listed , have no baring on the Texans making the playoffs.

Lack of injuries and big returns on special teams can certainly help you in the regular season. What if Andre had gotten injured on that play when he got his legs taken out? Are you saying that wouldn't have affected our playoff chances?

Superbowl champ Saints at home are a way better team than the Texans.

I can handle the Texans getting beat. Watching them get completely handled is a whole other thing. It's not supposed to look that easy.

Saints did that alot last season.

The alternative is to start a Fire Kubiak thread. Personally, I am very tired of the "not ready to play" comments in the Kubiak's post game interview. Hopefully Kubiak will figure out how to get his team ready by season start.

Big surprise...Texans play like **** after having a decent first game. It sounds like we are destined for another .500 season.

I don't think I can take another potential season of this crap.

the saints did not RUN through teams the way they ran through us last night. they passed over them like crazy. we gave up roughly 200 yards in rushing offense, alone. that's ridiculous. they carved up the first team defense on the ground.

maybe it's just a preseason game...but i've said that too many times before.

i'm with you...i don't want to read in too much.

but i also think the temptation is to try to read in too little. i've done that time and time before with the texans. but things like not being able to tackle properly are problems i saw last year in the preseason...and they were ultimately problems through the first 4 games of the season.

i don't think the texans are taking anything lightly. i don't think they came out on cruise control thinking, "this is just a preseason game." by all accounts, they TALK as if they have a chip on their shoulder and they have something to prove. they were absolutely man-handled last night.

maybe it doesn't mean much...but i feel like i've watched enough of this franchise to know that it doesn't mean nothing.

I think the tendency for Texans fans is to read too much into this team, either way they play.

If they were playing great, (ie - if the Saints and Texans roles were reversed last night), and everything was clicking on all cylinders, this place would be full of optimism, people already finding hotel rooms in dallas for february, and expectations would be at an all-time high... despite the fact that this team still has a chance to lose most of its division games once the games mean something.

Now that they played poorly, the suspicions arise again.

We know the offense is going to be fine. They may start out games looking lost (like they did numerous times last year), but I have confidence that by the end of the game, the offense won't be the reason why we may be losing a game.

The defense still has to improve everywhere, or at least be more consistent. Better pass-rush, better tackling, better at creating turnovers. I don't think they're as bad as they were last night, but they're also not going to be as good as everyone though they were last week, or at the end of last season.

They're somewhere in the middle. If they were elite, this team would have the major pieces in place to go all the way. I don't think anybody is confusing them for a team that does.
