I don't have a fascination with JJ Watt. I just would rather have him on my team rather than Christian Ponder. Weird that you disagree. I listed all the first round picks Smith has made and the QBs taking after them; the QBs are all trash. According to you, as long as you have a first round QB, you're okay. Why don't you go over to the Detroit Lions fan page since that is what you want. I just hope they break it to you easy that JJ Watt's teams have had better success than Matt Stafford's teams.

Idk y u braggin that we are doing better than Detroit. Typical complacent fan, just happy that we made playoffs, but offers no valid excuse to why the GM didn't bother drafting for qb every year to find a franchise qb. We could have traded picks done anything to try to find a Qb, but the organization was just happy making it into playoffs. Rolling an alright team with a sht qb into playoffs = Texans strat, keeps the fans happy.
Making playoffs and getting bounce out of playoffs without a competent qb have been the same pattern for all of Texans playoff runs, but hey we have JJ watt WHEEEEEEE!!!!!

Detroit and Texans = 0 rings, not even close to competing for one.

From 2006 to 2017 (GM Smith tenure), we have used exactly 4 picks on our quest for a franchise qb/back up qb via draft
    7th round pick 223: Alex Brink (2008)
    5th round pick 152: T.J. Yates (2011)
    4th round pick 135: Tom Savage (2014)
    1st round pick 12: Watson (2017)

We signed Matt Schaub and never even bothered to find his replacement, relying on free agency. But hey we have JJ watt, and made it into playoffs y'all.

What's done is done and i am glad we at least have Watson, but I just dislike the Houston's culture of complacency and mediocrity.
Andre Johnson could have been a sure-fire HOF if he had competent qbs throwing to him. If u look at the list of qb he had throwing the ball to him, u would get sick.
We could have competed in the playoffs if we have a qb, instead of getting bounce out. I just hope we don't waste Hopkins potential.

It's not bragging. It is breaking your whole argument. You've argued that all that is needed is a franchise QB and I gave you an example of a team that got that franchise QB and hasn't accomplished much.

I have given you reasons for not drafting QBs in the first round at where the Texans picked. Of course they could have traded up. And I'm sure you have inside information that they never even tried.

You must be new to this debate thing.

I don't think anyone would have faulted them for taking Jimmy G instead of xsf. They could have traded down a few spots if that was the concern.

It was an obviously good third round pick which is why the Pats took him.

Yes trading up is usually bad unless you are very sure. But even then injuries happen and can detail a career (Luck)

Oh I agree. It would have been a very good pick. But at the time no one was saying "Oh I can't believe he dropped that far into the 2nd round". That's what I mean by obvious. I mean consensus. If you blame the Texans for passing on him, as we should, then we should also blame all the other teams that needed QBs for passing on him too.

As expected. Hopefully he can put it all together this season, he was simply awful last year.

Results matter: what have the texans done so far in playoffs with the quarterback they taken into playoffs? Typically Texans fans' Response: we have JJ watt (no one fking cares).
franchise qbs matter more, u have to start there first. GM Smith has been with us for ~11 years, using only four picks in attempt to find a franchise qb is just sad.
Sidenote: 1/4 is pretty impressive to find a franchise qb, but u gotta factor it took 11 years.

Building a team, u can have teh best player (Watt) and still lose b/c of a lack of a competent qb. I can't believe i have to say this, but i guess i need to towards a typical texans complacent fan.

It's like the majority of the fanbase block out the memories of us getting smashed in playoffs because of our sht qbs, and replace dem with happy memories of JJ watt sacking someone.

    lol
You say you can't win without a franchise QB
I say you can have a franchise QB and still lose (with examples)
I also say you can win a superbowl without a top 10 QB (history has shown)
You say JJ Watt, JJ Watt, JJ Watt, JJ Watt....

regardless of your opinion u can't deny the fact that u need a franchise qb to win a superbowl. brady, manning, all dem franchise qbs, we have made zero real attempts to draft one until now. (Watson)
Idk how u can keep defending the Texans drafting philosophy of picking the best player at your draft position while entirely ignoring qbs. (Smith Tenure)
I don't enjoy watching us get rape in playoffs because of lack of a competent qbs do u?

Hope we have some great scouts coming in.

Should have some high picks (compared to this year). Including a high 2nd because I don’t expect Seattle to make the playoffs

His job is to stay healthy. He's proven when healthy that he can be effective. I hope he's spent the offseason getting his lower body stronger so he can keep J.Joe off the field

Would you change anything at this point and have someone else now at QB instead of Watson? Dude... it all worked out for the best.

We should be commending the organization now imo for setting this franchise up with one of the most dynamic QBs in the league for a very long time barring injury. We hit a homerun and thats extremely rare and difficult to do.

Taking a first round QB guarantees nothing. With your logic and approach we would have never even had Watt on our Team and we would have drafted Ponder instead for example, lol. Listen to yourself. We would be even worse off back then and even today if we did that. Thankfully we did not draft Ponder. Franchise QBs do not grow on trees!! And thankfully things played out to where Watson is our QB for many years to come.

Texans have been consistently better than the Colts who have had Luck and we were better than the Jags and Titans for years as well despite them all spending those top picks on QBs in the years we are discussing and we got to the playoffs all those years despite not reaching for frirst round QBs we clearly did not like. Oh wait, waive the magic wand baxk then and our perfect QB would have magically appeared and a championship would have been guaranteed.

Well, now we do have one. The right one... and thankfully so. Count your blessings as many teams with long existing franchise QBs now will lose them sooner or later and be potentially searching for years for another true QB replacement and those without one now are at risk for years of more searching and hoping. It is what it is. They are damn near impossible to find.

Time to sit back and enjoy.

I don't mind Gaine cleaning house as long as we get upgrades from what we cut loose.
