If Clowney had a hernia all last season, it makes what he did that much more impressive and makes his Combine look out of this world. He blew away the pack with a hernia.....wow.
I liked this response. those are some good points. I guess I am putting a little more faith (more than maybe warranted) in our new system but I cant help it lol. Also, and you touched on this, but I dont believe we were a 2-14 team last year, I think 9 of those games were less than 7 pts and Schaub threw like 5-6 pick 6's in our first 5-6 games. I think, with a new system, a QB that doesnt turnover the ball (jury is totally out on this but im just saying) and most importantly, all of our many injuries are back in play (ie. Arian, Cushing, Posey.. etc) I think that we could have won some of those 9 games and made a playoff push.. Add in this new system, a seemingly weaker schedule, and a team that is utterly embarassed and wants to prove themselves better than that.... I think you get a 9-10 win team that at least visits the playoffs One can HOPE...
I actually think we did upgrade the QB situation vs. last year. We may not have found our long term solution, but compared to Schaub throwing pick-6's and Keenum's trial by fire, Fitz will be better than that. Can't be any worse, actually.
Sure it could, Keenum and Schaub weren't the worst QB's in the NFL last year, that means it can get worse. Fitz could come in and be like Joe Flacco or even worse, Eli Manning last year.....of course he'd lose the job really quickly if that was the case, his team never won him any SB's.
ok hypothetically it could be worse, but seriously do you think Fitz will do better than Schaub + Keenum last year? Come on dude
"Better" is a relative term. I don't think he'll be set up for failure like those guys were, he won't come out having to throw the ball 40 times a game....or rather I certainly hope not. I don't think Fitz produces anywhere near the same number of passing yards, but hopefully not as many interceptions as well. He'll need to be used like a game manager, neither Case or Schaub were used that way last year and it was more than the broken QB or rookie could manage.
It seems like we might be pretty good on defense, but based on past history I just don't think Fitz will keep the turnovers down enough for us to win more than 5-6 games.
If he becomes too much of a problem . . . I hope BO'B will yank him I think last year Kubiak let Schuab twist too long. By time he yanked him . .the whole season was over We start 0-4 or 0-5 because of QB PLAY . . time for Case. . . .Savage . . or anyone off the fricking street. Rocket River
The Texans aren't a model of consistency and a winning organizations so what Tennessee and Jacksonville have done the past 10 years is irrelevant. That's like the pot talking about the kettle. But Jacksonville has a new owner and his son is a lot more useful than McNair's son. Here's an article of him explaining some of their picks this year. http://www.si.com/nfl/audibles/2014/05/14/jacksonville-jaguars-analytics-2014-nfl-draft I don't know if the Jags will be good or not _ I'm just saying thay may not be the same push over team and division games are usually the toughest. I wouldn't be surprised if Tennessee is fighting for the division this year. Their main and biggest problem last year was Fitzcraptrick. I wouldn't bet any money on the Texans going 4-0 against Tennessee and Jacksonville if I were you.
Every time I start to post something about my team in this forum, I stop myself because I don't want to sound like a troll or a Debbie Downer.
Because you are not wildly optimistic? I was at first, but my optimism has waned. The Fitz signing was discouraging. This guy is a career backup who has never proven in ten years that he is starter material. Case Kennum is presumed to not be a starter after a few games, this guy has had TEN Years! Newton being announced as the starter is Kubiakesque. Kind of like "in your face" fans you don't know talent! Actually, incompetence is not that hard to detect. The Savage pick is another head scratcher. After a few games we will get a much better picture, but for now, it is hard to really get pumped.
I am probably overly optimistic because . . . I just cannot think Fitzie will be worse than Schaub last year Play calling cannot be as bad and the Defense should be better [upgrades in personel and the improvement of offense] Rocket River
I disagree Fitz was not the only problem. Dude their WR'S corp were not good . Offensive line wasn't much better than ours Remii. They didn't have a good defense either. They let there best offensive weapon go. I don't see a vast improvement for the Jags either. I don't care that owners son is so active with the team verse McNair's son. Really who gives a crap. Again how about showing some type of positive remarks for your team bro. Personally I think we are going to be better than what you expects. We lost a lot of close games last season because of Matt noodle arms throwing a record# of pick 6's. Our defense will be much better IMO. RC will have these boys flying all over the field. We will put tones of pressure on the opposing QB'S.
I said Fitzpatrick was their "main problem" and he was. Tennessee had a winning record with Locker _ and then Fitzpatrick took over... He was their "Matt Schaub." Ken Whisenhunt is a guy who has earned the "quarterback guru" tag and has been to super bowls with Pittsburg, and as a head coach in Arizona, and he just rejuvenated Philip Rivers career... And the first thing he did when he got to Tennessee was kick Fitzpatrick the heck out. How do you make predictions without examining the other teams..? "Keep an eye on your enemy." That kid reminds me of Daryl Morey with all of those analytics... And he (and his dad) made two excellent hires with David Caldwell as the GM (the guy who helped build the Atlanta team) and Gus Bradley as the Head coach (the guy who helped build the Seattle defense). And they've practically flipped that roster in one year (two off-seasons and one regular season) and upgraded everywhere. And all of us Texans fans know that Chad Henne can sling it when he has weapons on the field. All McNair's son is doing is letting Rick Smith circle jerk his dad. I'm not running a charity bruh... And we do not all have to agree here on everything
Don't you think you are being overly harsh in judging Case Keenum's rookie year? He was put in a situation that almost no one would look good in. He had no running game, no O line, no defense to hold leads, a team had all but given up before he even got a chance, and a head coach who was itching to pull him to put his buddy Schaub back in.
To "stay" in the pocket, there has to be a pocket. For an undrafted FA, he did amazing given what he had to work with, now that doesn't mean he doesn't have a lot he needs to improve on before this year, but even Tom Brady would have struggled behind that line.
Is QB the only position where "put in any scrub or someone from the street" is thought of as a legitimate opinion?
Come on man, don't go the straw man route, we were doing really well. No one suggested putting in "any scrub or someone from the street" and penciling in Fitz or Keenum wouldn't be doing that.
