All this crap about remember Stromile. Honestly I don't remember stromile cuz JVG didn't play him long enough for me to even get a decision on him. I was soo hoping that we let Howard go and give Stro a year to play. And then make judgements. But nope. Now we are old and slow. Battier is a good player nice solid role player. Plays tough D can shoot the open J, but he doesn't help our biggest weaknest which was perimeter speed. We have absolutely no speed in the backcourt, which is what Gay brought. SOme athleticism. How are we gonna play the Mavs, or Suns. All this is gonna do is get Yao in more foul trouble when he comes over late to help out after slow people get burned on the perimeter. Trade sucks balls. If it was Gay and Howard for Battier and something else I'd be happy. But why stro. Tmac is gonna be pissed
Swift's worth is not zero. His worth doubles that of Howard according to 82games.com http://www.82games.com/0506/0506HOU.HTM This can be a great trade if it is Gay+Howard for Battier or Gay+Wesley for Battier. We are raped with Gay+Swift for Battier!
I fail to understand why some ppl think this is a GOOD trade, regardless how you put it. I admire their stubborness to refuse to admit that we have been badly RAPED.
Haha, if we always use one MLE(swift) and one lottery pick to land a player the caliber of Shane Battier, Les should go straight into a pawn shop and sell all his assets. At least he'd get more returns that way.
Just like I don't see why some think it's a BAD trade. We'll just have to wait and see when the season gets under way.
i dont like this trade but i like Battier i still hope that we will land lowry or johnson, or maybe warrick ao maybe future first round picks ???
Agree. I'd put Stomile as addition by subtraction or the price Memphis paid to do the deal. Sort of like when we got Juwan or Portland wanted us to take Miles. I agree getting rid of Juwan who is clearly better than Stromile is also addition by subtraction. Given Juwan's much bigger salary Juwan may even be a bigger addition by subtraction, especially since Stromile would be easier to dump later. Ditto for me and I was at the Toyota Center, except I would have preferred Brewer more. Dam n. My thinking also. It is so rare to agree virtually 100% with a complex post.
Some people, like myself, hated Rudy Gay and Swift. IMO these are two guys that you would never be able to win with. Swift is brain dead and soft, and from everything we hear Gay is soft as well. Saying all this I still feal that the Rockets could have gotten more out of this trade.
At the start of the off-season we needed to upgrade at the starting 1, 2, and 4 and backup 3 and 5. Battier fills that backup 3 but we also now need a backup 4. Plus the only thing of trade value - Gay is now gone. The Rockets need to quit buying high and selling low to correct past mistakes. Q: Does Battier start if he were on Dallas, SA, Miami, or Detroit? A: No. But he can be in their eight-man rotation. Q: What about Gay? A: He would definitely be in their 8-man rotation and he can potentially start on all three teams next year. Upside on Gay is becoming a go-to player.
why would gay an unproven rookie start on any of those teams over battier? i just don't buy it. i understand the problem with trading him but i can't be convinced right now that gay is already better than battier.
I like this trade: 1) Battier is a No.6 pick in a much better draft year than this year. Notables from that year draft: Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Paul Gasol, Jason Richardson, Eddie Griffin, Sagana Diop, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tony Parker, Jammal Tinsley, Zach Randolph, Samual Dalembert, Gilbert Arenas, Trenton Hassell, Bobby Simmons, 2) If anyone does any statistics on the outcome of previous No.8 drafts, here is a look: 2000 Jamal Crawford Michigan Fr. PG/SG 6-6 195 2001 Sagana Diop 6-11 310 C Oak Hill HSSr. 2002 Chris Wilcox 6-10 218 PF Maryland So. 2003 TJ Ford 6-0 162 PG Texas So. 2004 Rafael Araujo 6-11 280 C BYU Sr. 2005 Channing Frye 6-11 244 C Arizona Sr. Obviously Battier is a better play than most of the above.
Besides the fact that this trade is a product of Houston Knicks mentality, there's aldready a "I like this trade" thread out there.
1st reason doesnt mean anything. He is not a rookie anymore and actually he has 5 years to prove his ability. 2nd reason is ridiculous. So 8th pick is doomed?
Lottery Picks from Uconn: Charlie Villanueva Emeka Okafor Ben Gordon Caron Butler Rip Hamilton Ray Allen Donyell Marshall Obviously Battier is a worse player than most of the above.
