I have been to a game at Wrigley. Nobody was really watching the game. They were too busy getting drunk.
Erm... They went in '45. And before that in 1910, 1918 (beaten by the Red Sox, of all franchises), 1929, 1932, 1935, and 1938. Concerning AJ--don't feed the trolls.
Am I the only one pleasantly surprised (read: stunned) when the Astros swept the Cardinals and took the opener at Wrigley yesterday? Fun weekend!
Sampson, Hawkins and Valverde have been solid and added a stability and consistency to the bullpen. Sampson may desire to be a starter, but he has proven extremely valuable as a setup guy (one who can also pitch 2+ innings regularly).
I'm suprised they're 6 games over .500. Pleasantly so. They're about to creep into 3rd place in the division.
"Creep"?? No "creeping" there, bud. They kicked StL's asses. They're about to overtake the Co-ardinals for 3rd place, baby! YEAH!! (Hey, you gotta taste your victories wherever you can when your team is the very definition of mediocre!)
They were 21-9 in August. Holy crap. Imagine if they had done that in June??? Had the Astros gone 17-9 in June, they'd currently be 79-59, and very likely ahead of the Brewers, since some of those June losses came at their hands. Beyond simply mediocre, this team is incredibly streaky. Better starting pitching would really address that, wouldn't it?
Had the Astros gone 17-9 in June there is no telling what they would have done in July and August...everything would have changed.
Of course that's true. Everyone knows that's true. As a matter of fact, considering the streakiness of this club, had the Astros gone 17-9 in June they would probably have gone oh-for-July!
Damn, after all the winning and being completely fascinated by "August Wiggy", I completely forgot about Carlos being out.
random question about free agency but I see Wigginton is a free agent in 2010. That means he's a free agent after the completion of the 2009 season?
