Short list. All home appliances: they work forever - buy them used. Cars: see "home appliances". Audio equipment: audiophiles are humongous r****ds. You won't hear the difference. Seriously. Clothes: Designer clothes are for suckers. Thrift shops ftw. Jewelry: don't get me started Downtown houston restaurants: insane. Computers: never buy the top of the line. It'll be the bottom in 6 months. ANYTHING BRAND-NAME. "Polo" wall paint? Are you f'n serious?
I'm going to go against the grain and defend pricey shoes. I have about 10 pairs of pricey shoes ($500+)... and i've had them for years and years... they are insanely comfortable, still look great after a shine, and have been well worth the investment... if the product will last a long time and provides comfort/good use - i don't think there is such thing as "overpriced" same goes for mattresses, jeans, etc.
Ah yes. How could I forget this. BEER at sporting events. $7 for a beer at a Rockets game. Insane. If I'm paying $7 a beer, I expect some bare breasts in the room, and I'm not talking about man boobs.
Yea, the first thing I thought when I saw this thread was drinks at a ballgame or concert or even a movie. Buying a coke at a movie that is a small, mind you, costs like 4 bucks. Meanwhile, I can get a 12 fl oz aluminum can of coke at my workplace for $0.35. And gas is another biggie as is eating out at any sit down restaurant.
Ticketmaster's "convenience fee" Going to the movies ($18 for two ticket, $2 parking, $15.00 for cokes/popcorn) Beers at sporting events
You still BUY those? I haven't bought one in a while... and I usually rent the $1 RedBox ones and copy it if I like it so much, or download them. Dude. I pay about 20 for my 2 kids and my wife and myself, and I buy the MOVIE-STYLE box of candy at General Dollar and a pickle for my wife for 79c at the corner store BEFORE we go into the theater. Why can't YOU do this? This is not ghetto, it's called being smart. Lil Pun: take Community College lower-level classes that are for credit. Some of you whine about buying things ya'll DON'T HAVE TO pay for, seriously. Now, GAS... let me tell ya... ya'll can CARPOOL or TAKE THE BUS. Stop whining and you should have thought about it before buying that SUV or that SPORTS CAR you didn't need.
hehehe, that was funny but i agree with him. don't agree on bose speakers though, you can tell the difference. also well made expensive shoes tend to last longer.
my good... i meant to put this <img src="http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9G_bDqZ2hBIseoAVKOjzbkF/SIG=12g26kav9/EXP=1209150489/**http%3A//www.1st-4-louis-vuitton.com/images/monogramcanvas.jpg">
Can't believe I didn't see 'medications' posted in this thread so far. They are far more expensive in the States than most anywhere else. Otherwise though, things are pretty cheap in the States compared to the rest of the world. Gas, clothes, food, cars, even housing for the most part. Compared to Europe and the big cities in Asia there is no comparison. Anyways, to disagree with pgabs and rhadaman......there are really only 2 things in this world I know of for which the price is generally directly proportional to the quality: neckties and stereo speakers
If you can find their old models which were still handmade in the States using real wood, etc.....then they are pretty decent for the price......the Bose 10.2 for instance was not bad at all....
Because I don't want candy, I want popcorn...and I can't pop it in the theater Also, if we go to the movies, it's after dinner...not a matinee
