I am going out of the country and don't want to risk losing my phone so I will buy a new one to take. It seems the GSM version of the Droid Razr Maxx isn't out yet so I was thinking to just get the XT-910

Am I missing something that might be a better deal or phone? I won't get 3G/4G service there so I just need 1800MHz GSM. I thought about Galaxy SII but seems overpriced compared to the Motorola.

Do you have an iPhone now?

I unlocked & jailbroke my iPhone before going to Asia, bought a Gevey SIM card for it, and was able to get local numbers and data for really cheap while in India, Pakistan, and Nepal.

Yeah but I just don't enjoy traveling with it. I would rather have something that doesn't have all the info my actual phone has in it so if I lose it I am just out some cash instead of fearing whatever.

I will be in a ton of places with WiFi so I want it handy on my phone.

Look into sprint world phones. No one buys them because they assume they are cdma only , but they are usually quad band and unlocked.

ie Motorola Photon. You can probably get one from craigslist for under 200.

    WiFi and 4g

If you're willing to drop almost 500 on a Razr, why not just get an unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus? Theyre' going for about 480 or so new. Even cheaper on Craigslist and ebay. Plus it's Pentaband so it's pretty much compatible with most GSM networks.

I didn't really see the point. They are 630 on Amazon (compared to 490) and seem to just have a slightly larger screen is thicker, and I kinda like the Motorola's looks better.

Am I wrong? Already ordered the Moto but can cancel return. (amazon rules)

Aren't the odds of losing your phone in the US the same as they are abroad?

    $690 on amazon?

    $482.99 with Prime

But if you prefer the looks, then go with what you like :)

I don't really trust third party on Amazon. I have sworn off eBay as well. Too much trouble.

Ah, okay I get that. The Razr will probably be your best bet, plus it will get ICS sooner or later. Build quality on Moto devices is pretty good too. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Is the galaxy nexus really good? I have an iphone 4 but the signal for some reason is terrible. I heard that the nexus had terrible signal too. And I just cant get away from the iOS for some reason. I always thought that android was so choppy.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one today.

I will keep the XT910 also because I really like it. My colleague has the Nexus and I was playing with ICS, pretty great.

I haven't noticed any issues with battery at all. I guess if you want to browse LTE for 10 straight hours the Maxx might be good. The unlocked GSM version version will come out soon.
