Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but TWill has been the most impressive bench player this season. He sprinted out on the court after every timeout, slapping out high fives, mid air jump collisions, and a big smile. Feels good to see a guy so excited about his teammates and cheering them on ever since we lost Mutumbo
Off the top of my head, the only small forward I can think of who's close to 6-11 is Rashard Lewis, and even then, Lewis is definitely more of a combo forward at this point in his career. I remember watching the Warriors play the Thunder last year, and Monta Ellis played defense on Kevin Durant for most of the game. Monta is 6-2 on a good day, and Kevin's easily 6-9. Monta pretty much shut Durant down that night. If a guy like Monta - who's pretty mediocre as a defender when unmotivated - can stop a guy like Kevin Durant, I don't see why TWill, who's bigger, stronger, and a better overall defensive player, would have any more trouble than the next guy. As long as he's tall enough to get his hand in the face of a shooter, he's good.
Where is Terrence Williams? Ok a couple of games have passed and i haven't even seen Terrence hit the floor? Is he injured? Why isn't he getting any minutes if he's not
He needs to go through practice, which the team didn't have because of busy schedule. He will soon, so maybe we will see him in the rotation from January...
This is the problem with 6-6 small forwards -- when leaping ability is smiliar, taller SFs just shoot right over their diminuative defenders. Back in the 80s 6-6 was standard for a SF, but now that is SG height.
Williams has a standing reach of 8' 7.5". Which is 2.5" more than chase, and only 1.5" less than Battier. So while he is short for a SF, he has a long reach which should help when defending and rebounding.
I don't think this is as big a problem as you think. For one thing there are very few SFs who are 6'8 or taller, have good enough handles to slash into the paint with a man in front of him AND can shoot in transition. The only ones that come to my mind are Durant, Pierce and Lebron. Most of the 6'8 sfs actually have a horrible jumper like Josh Smith, Shawn Marion, Anthony Randolph, Melo etc. So with guys like that, a contested jumper is actually a good thing.
He's needs practice time to fit into the rotation. I think Budinger is going to end up losing minutes here. Poor Budinger, he picked a bad spot to go on an extended shooting slump. Lowry / Brooks Martin / Lee (PG defender though) Battier / Williams Scola / Hill Hayes / Miller (Point center)
this guy is a perfect size for a SF. Lewis is more of a PF. the other tall SF's like Durant are skinny. Williams has some bulk and i think he will be a great defender. i just hope this guy can get some PT soon. i do not understand RA's rotation...Hill - 5 minutes last night? seriously?
Could this be part of the problem regarding Chases's current (hopefully short-term) shortcomings at SF?
Hayes got in early foul trouble guarding Blake and hill was the first guy of the Bench. Adelman wanted to give Hill a shot at stopping Griffen or Jordan. But when Hill came in the Clippers started dunking at will . Not all his fault. But Blake was backing him in and was just to much for Hill. (Nothing to be embarassed about. Griffen reminds me of Malone with more hops) So Adelman had to leave Hayes in their much longer. ALso PPat was helping out at the 4 and because Hayes was in foul trouble.
