every single thing. I have the 880, you can scroll through each page of controls on the LCD screen. Its has every thing for my Pioneer receiver. Its extremely awesome. Also, for TVs with long startup times (my sony) you can program the startup delay time. All of the data is online on their website that you connect to program your remote. Easily the best remote. http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/n...80_advanced_universal_remote_review_08090148/
see, it's the probably part that i'm try to figure out. i have no problem shelling out for it, i just want to access itunes and/or MediaCentral.
I got mine for $200 on ebay. I wanted the RF capabilites because we are going to put all of our components in an armoire. I think it is money very well spent. It is by far the best remote I've ever owned.
Does the mac mini have infrared? If not, I don't know what to tell you. One thing that pisses me off is that the PS3 doesn't have an infrared port. You'd think that they could muster up the 30 cents it costs to put that puppy in. Now I have a remote that does almost everything and a PS3 remote. That is a huge suck.
http://twistedmelon.com/mira/hardware.html ^just ordered this and will get a harmony 880 or 890. anything the 880 does that the 890 won't?
The only difference that I know of is that the 890 has RF and the 880 does not. I really needed/wanted the RF.
do you use front row and the apple remote? if so, the codes should be pretty easy to come by. if not, do you already have a remote that controls itunes, such as the keyspan? if so, you should be able to program a learning remote from the keyspan. itunes remote control is easy- keyspan, apple remote, the salling clicker will let you control itunes via your mobile. oddly, i just a call from these guys.
The fact that they put EVERYTHING on a PS3 but this, is so stupid. Sony was pushing PS3 to be part of your media set up...play games, bluray, browse the web...and they leave off a IR port so your remote can control it? Stupid. I understand they want to hock their own remote via bluetooth, but it was just dumb. Apparently there are some work arounds to install a RF port using the old PS2 hardware, but I haven't tried it yet.
Man there are so many Harmony remotes. Which one do I pick? I saw a harmony 676 at office depot. Is that one any good? I was gonna get from there because I have a 40 dollar gift card.
I have two, a 688 in my bedroom and an 880 in my living room...while the 880 looks cooler, and is rechargable, it does have a delay for startup and the buttons are smooth so I always have a hard time pushing the right channel...both of my versions can't control blue tooth devices (ie. PS3) which sux...
i read if you buy this remote here and use the dongle you can control the PS3 with the harmony. http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Blu-Wave-Remote/dp/B000R5H7KE/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b
I've got a Harmony 520, about $60. It's much better than my previous remotes. They all basically have the same capability, but some just feel better than others. The buttons on mine feel a little cheap.
I got a Harmony 550 for 38 on Newegg open box. It can control anything that is possible to control with the original remotes and MORE. On my original cable box remote I could not scroll pages on the menu, now I can. I like it also because it uses AAA batteries instead of a built in battery. This way I don;t have to put it back in a cradle when I am done. I just swap the discharged batteries with charged ones. Awesome remote.
