I still can't stand that they used to be the Dallas Texans...what a lack of imagination for the team name, but it's not like the other finalist were that much better...
Apollos was my favorite of that group by far. Anything space or energy themed would be more Houston than Texas...which is what I far prefer.
Apollos would have been my choice too Texans is not only the lamest and least creative name in the NFL, it was already associated with the city of Dallas. Its sucked since day 1
Apollos would have been dope. Would create a lot of landscape for creativity in the colors, logo, etc. The only downside is it would be easy to call them "pollos" (spanish for chickens... which is also kind of an upside).
No. Bob McNair like the Texans name. Just because the name was used 40 years before the Houston Texans, mean there is a connection. There is not. Edmonton Oilers were formed in 1971. Had nothing to do with the Houston Oilers.
Don’t think anyone said there was a connection rather than association. Your cross sport reference does not apply.
The new alternative helmets do look great but I agree with majority that Apollo’s should have been the name
I too would have preferred Apollos, but I'm in the minority in that I prefer the red jersey with the blue pants. Think it would look especially good with this helmet. I also think that we should change our blue to powder and make the red helmets the full-time helmets.
This would immediately become the #1 selling uniform in the league. Huge opportunity. Now (during our rebuild) would be the ideal time to rebrand the franchise.
Give it up. The Titans would object because they will say are infringing on the Oiliers's scheme, without the logo. The NFL wouldn't allow it. Texans wouldn't do it anyway.
