pretty tall order for the President, dontcha think? there are huge economic inequalities that are unjust...but holding the president accountable for those? they've existed ever since there was a United States of America.

he's not responsible for the disparity existing. But it's (yet another) thing that's on his plates. (Presidents have big plates).

When an unacceptable condition is getting worse, he needs to a address it. Or he should...

I said back before the whole rate was at 9.5 or something that if it fell back below seven by the election that obama was a lock. that looks possible

Below seven is definately not possible. Below 8 would even be a surprise.

Last year my law professor said he believed the economy would start improving right before the election, helping Obama's odds... Well 4 more years of hearing my mom b**** and quote Fox News.

Obama is a lock no matter what the unemployment is. His margin will be much higher but he will lose more seats. Below 7 will not happen before the election.

The troubling thing about the job report is 50k people left the labor force. Usually that isn't a good sign.

I don't if that means they gave up because of no jobs or if they gave up cause they are lazy.

Or if people simply retired. That's one of the difficulties with the employment measures right now - we had an unusual number of people stay in the workforce when their retirement savings were crushed in 2008/2009, so those people may finally be retiring over these next few years with the stock market having rebounded. In addition, we have an aging population, so the labor force is naturally expected to shrink as baby boomers retire. The problem is that we don't know whether the people leaving the workforce are these types of people (a good/normal thing) or frustrated workers (a bad thing).

I promise you if Europe drags the U.S. economy back down, it won't be easy.

Not with Romney as his main competitor. Obama destroys him.

This overconfidence reminds me of when some here thought Obama would beat McCain by 10-15 points (even before he chose Sarah Palin). Obama won't "destroy" anybody in November because there are deep reservations about him among people despite the goofiness of national Republicans.

I don't like either guy. But during the debate when Romney tries to attack Obamacare all obama has to do to is stare at romney and say well you came up with it first it was called romney care.

Or when romney complains about solyndra obama can stare at him and be like well you asked for the same when you were with bain.

And when romney says he wants to create jobs in america obama can stare at him and he be like when so why did you ship out all those jobs when you were head of bain capital.

This is how you see things but I promise it won't be that simple. Republicans are better at hitting buttons during presidential elections than Dems. It will be a 4-5% victory for Obama unless the economy tanks. The only way Obama has a blowout is for the GOP to nominate a nut like Newt or someone unelectable like Santorum.

Good article out of the San Francisco article today. Let's hope we keep the positive momentum. I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

The "official" unemployment is 9.5%. I don't think they are counting adults who have returned to school, military personnel, and others just living with mom and dad waiting it out, and etc. Its actually closer to 17.6%
