With this being considered an exceptionally deep draft, I haven't seen much talk about players that will go undrafted. I think guys like Angelo Gigli, Daniel Ewing, Eddie Basden, and Dijon Thompson who have slipped to the end of the 2nd round might be some intriguing possibilities if they fall out of the draft. I don't follow college players very closely, so I'd like to see your thoughts on undrafted players we may want to bring in as free agents for the summer leagues.
Very few undrafted players ever amount to anything in the NBA. This year will likely be no different.
^^ exactly. and considering that this year's class isn't that good and most of the 2nd rounders won't make active rosters, i doubt any undrafted player will make any type of impact from this draft.
It's a given that undrafted and 2nd rounders are rare as major contributors. However, for end of the bench, practice help, spot minutes or specialists there have been some successes. For a recent example: Marquis Daniels For another: Ben Wallace
Some of these guys might have withdrawn and some might get picked in the second but most are expected to go undrafted. 61 Tiras Wade 62 Marcin Gortat 63 Dijon Thompson 64 Drago Pasalic 65 Bojan Popovic 66 Ricky Shields 67 Orien Greene 68 Rawle Marshall 69 Jawad Williams 70 Tre Simmons 71 Lucas Tischer 72 Bracey Wright 73 Uros Slokar 74 Von Wafer 75 Amir Johnson 76 Jared Homan 77 Aaron Miles 78 Robert Whaley 79 B.J. Elder 80 Brandon Rush 81 Taylor Coppenrath 82 Torin Francis 83 Anthony Roberson 84 Jack Ingram 85 Jackie Manuel 86 Omar Thomas 87 John Lucas 89 Pops Mensah-Bonsu 90 Peja Samardziski 91 Marko Lekic 92 Stephen Smith 93 Deji Akindele
I'd like to see them sign Lawrence Roberts if he isnt drafted. At least put him on the summer league roster.
Brandon Rush may go undrafted? The Rockets should pick him up if that's the case. Supposedly he's better than his older brothers. Kareem included.
Michael Harris from Rice was one of the best college players in America last year. He was CollegeInsider.com's national player of the year. He averaged 20.6 points, 11.7 rebounds per game, and was double and sometimes triple teamed all season. He isn't showing up on anybody's draft board because he's only 6-6, but he is a legitimate player who could certainly make somebody's team.
He's another good player that I wouldnt mind seeing on our summer league team. He is a little undersized but he is a beast.
I said this in another post somewhere but Joey Graham has a twin brother named Stephen. Stephen is an inch shorter but has a much more refined perimeter game and a better shot. He didn't improve the perimeter defense for OSU when he was in the game therfore he didn't get a lot of PT for coach Sutton but he can play and may have better game than Joey. I believe he has game that is a better match for his size in that he can play the 2 guard. He is build much like Jim Jackson. Stephen doesn't seem to be quite as tough mentally as Joey and that may be the biggest difference but he is definitly worth an invite to camp.
We should definitely look at John Lucas, Lawrence Roberts, and the Rice people as well as the UCLA guy.
Omar Thomas made him look BAD all three times they played this year. Someone had better give OT a look, the kid can flat out score...
I think it is quite possible to find someone serviceable in the undrafted ranks. The draft is deep on decent talent going into the second round. There will be some decent guys who don't get a look. It will still be luck finding them though.
travis deiner. he's been labelled as the purest point guard in the draft. i'd label him bob sura (very) lite.
