This, the smaller PF's had a really distinctive team advantage. Surprised Carl didn't drag in Patterson somehow.

You're right. With shoes. Do you claim your height with shoes when someone asks how tall you are?

Terrence jones is 6"8'. As I've mentioned many times.

    Griffin is like 6"9'.

It doesn't matter. But just saying.

Traditionally, 6'9 (NBA measurement) is the standard height for PFs. If a guy is shorter than that, they are usually considered undersized. I don't know why people now have started to label 6'9 PF as "undersized."

That said, "size" is more than just height. Physical attributes like arm length, upper body and lower body strength, jumping ability, etc. are all parts of "size." For example, Big Baby Davis is somewhat short by PF's standard, but he probably has the widest body in the NBA. Nobody thinks he's undersized?

    Today's NBA has 3 positions

    Point Guard
    Swingman
    Low Post Guy

Swingman used to be the 2 & 3. But it also contains the "combo-forwards" that are 3's and 4's.

You can get away with a smaller "PF" if you have a stud rebounder/shot blocker like DeAndre Jordan or Dwight Howard. Or Bogut, Gasol etc.

With the "pace and space" type play these days and teams needing to "switch" on PNRs, having long, athletic, quick players that can guard multiple positions (quick and big swingmen) are at a premium.

And that is why GS has done well (Thompson, Iggy, Barnes, Green), they have those types of players. Houston is on the right track though with Ariza, Brewer, Jones, Smith, Harden etc.

We are long gone from needing a bruiser PF next to a bruiser C like Otis Thorpe was with Hakeem.

Right now the Wizards are playing their best ball with Pierce at the PF spot with EITHER Nene or Gortat at C. Not with both of those guys on the court.

People only made up the whole undersized pf thing

the reality it's just Patrick Patterson and Marcus Morris are just not that great of players

in no world is 6'9 considered to be undersized as a power forward unless you are extremely or have short arms

How many PF's are over 6'10?????
If everyone is 6'10 or less. . . hard to say 6'9 is that undersized

If you over 6'10 . .you probably a center . .. or Kevin Durant

Not sure why we still look at height as an important physical aspect. Standing reach is a better indicative of a player's length.

We should only look at win shares.

Josh Smith is the same height as TJones, but I don't see anyone hating him right now.

Ok sure, but 'without shoes' is an irrelevant measurement in the NBA. No players are listed at height 'without shoes' - they are all measured with, and without, and the 'with shoes' measurement is the 'NBA height' that gets listed.

So when discussing the height of NBA players, the value always used is the 'with shoes' number.

For the record, Jones is 6'8.25 and Griffin 6'8.5 without shoes.

No, Josh Smith is 6'8.25 - a legitimately undersized NBA powerforward!! Except that he has a long wingspan, and an 8'10 standing reach (right about average) -But as you say, who cares how tall they are? Isn't it what they produce that counts??
