You just said you liked Gilmore Girls. You are out of your element. You have no frame of reference here. You are like a child that has wandered into a movie theater...
Six feet under... don't know how underrated it is but probably has good as television gets. Each shot, each angle, each moment...created conflict, revelation, character. Amazing show. -V
Battlestar Galactica is still the #1 most underrated show on TV today. Also, Pushing Daisies is pretty awesome. Underrated by the general public, but it did rack up quite a few Golden Globe nominations, so at least the critics are watching, I guess.
psyche has its moments, and I watched king of queens because of Leah Remini, she used to be DAMNNNNNNNN
that was the worst show ever.... just like everyone else said....newsradio lock it up also i was a fan of Becker
you know, i saw george lopez's last hbo special, i think it was america's mexican, and it was one of the least funny things i had ever seen. i like almost every hbo special and am not that hard to please comedy-wise, but this was just terrible. however, i think his show is pretty damn funny. sometimes if i can't sleep and am still up, i'll watch it at 2:30 a.m. after Cheers (the best show ever), and i really like it. i figured having george lopez and i think being part of TGIF at one point was pretty much a sign that it sucked, but the episodes i've watched have been pretty good.
Yeah, at this point I thought NewsRadio was so obvious it's not even worth mentioning. Every other show competes for second place. I'll second Home Movies. And I don't know if it counts, but I'm surprised Reno 911 doesn't have a bigger following. Easily one of my favs on tv right now. Flight of the Conchords too...maybe I'm just not aware of the followings?
No love for Arrested Development or Firefly yet? Never really got into the show myself...only saw bits and pieces...but then I was never given much of a chance to watch it thanks to Fox. One show I did watch and had a lot of promise, especially since it had Jeremy Piven, was Cupid.
My list is so underrated(and so old) many people may not even be familiar with these shows. Slap Maxwell Buffalo Bill It's the Gary Shandling Show Freaks and Geeks Ben Stiller Show The New Show(a sketch show with a mix of SNL and Second City folks) Square Pegs The David Letterman show when it was a morning show Great Scott But the number one most underrated show would have to be... Get A Life PS - Battlestar Galatica is very under rated. It's not even my cup of tea, and I rarely watch it, but the acting, and writing are probably better than any show on TV. Furthermore to have that with some pretty darn good special effects all on a weekly show is pretty amazing. I don't think anything like that has been accomplished before.
I think nobody is really mentioning shows like Futurama, NewsRadio, AD, and Firefly because those have reached cult status and are very popular and well known moreso now then when they were actually airing. I agree, I saw a bit of that and it was just terribly unfunny. Becker was my favorite show of the CBS Monday Night Lineup that Included King of Queens, Yes Dear, and Everybody Loves Raymond. Ted Danson was the original ******* Doctor before House and Dr Cox (wisecracking surgeons don't count)
I agree with you guys about Battlestar. I just watched the most recent ep online. Wow, they're really cranking it up. I'm upset there's no new episode this week! They're not still planning on holding the second half until 2009 are they? Damn Sci Fi channel. Cheers is a wonderful show. Not so much underrated, but this generation probably wouldn't have seen it. Such funny but realistic characters. A bunch of bar flies with problems. I may lose guy points here, but My So Called Life was a good watch. Maybe for a bit younger crowd and it's basically the Wonder Years with a female protagonist. It still resonates though. Penn and Teller's Bulls...CLAP...hit is a good show if you are amused by skeptical libertarian rhetoric with healthy doses of humor. C'mon they're freaking magicians! Good thought exersizes anyway. It changed my mind about a few things. Mr. Show with David Cross and Bob Odenkirk is THE best if you like sketch comedy.
