There are a lot of jealous rappers in the industry, some of them don't get the credit they deserve, the vast majority of them suck.
hell that describes any industry but if a million sucks. . their are still 250K that don't and alot of them don't like your man either Rocket River
I respect what Scarface did for Houston rap, but he is just not that talented. People make too big of a deal with him. He came up with the Geto Boys and brought Houston on the map. I have full respect for him in doing that. They were real good back then, but times have changed. Why don't yall just listen to Z-Ro's CD and tell me what he can't do that Scarface can. Face can tell stories, but it's nothing. There is nothing different about the way he tells his stories. He's pretty good, but just NOT THAT GOOD. Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim, Big Pun are all better lyricists than Scarface. I can name 20 rappers just from the east coast that will wreck Face. I give him props for what he has done to the game, but he is OVERRATED. Now we all have our own opinions, but Scarface is not one of the best lyricists. He means a lot to the game, but that's NOT what I was talking about. Face to Houston is like Biggie to New York. He is that huge, but he just ISN'T that good to be up there as a rapper alone.
I understand where you're coming from and also I understand what moe was saying. Eminem is one of the BEST LYRICISTS to ever come out. It doesn't matter if this guy is white or black, he is THAT GOOD. If he was black, he probably wouldn't even sell 100,000 CDs, but he'd still be a great lyricist.
Big Pun should not be in a group with Nas and Rakim... and you talk about overrated. The guy died, that doesn't mean his rhymes should be heralded as the last words of a god, much less elevated above everyone else's ****. Same goes for Biggie and Pac... even though they were incredible in their day, death only overhyped them.
If you listen to how Big Pun rhymes, he spit way more multi's (multi-syllible rhymes) than Biggie or 2pac. They were real deep in thinking, but Pun's lyrics were more like Eminem's. It's just the way he puts together his rhymes, felt like he was rhyming about 4 or 5 words in each line, which is really incredible. I'ma rapper myself, so I know how hard it is to write multi's the way he does. Him and Eminem are in a different era. If anything, Pun was underrated. Nobody ever gave him credit until after he died. I know he's not as good as Rakim and Nas, but he's definitely somewhere up there.
Eminem is one of the Best Lyrics to EVER come out but Scarface is overrated? . . .leave that crack alone Outkast Slick Rick and Scarface are the PINNACLES of the ART OF STORYTELLIN' Faces rhymes are deep and insightful If you think they just about killing, blinging and banging you really ain't listening Eminem is Average . . . Gimmicky but i must confess .. i think 'battle rhyme' and freestyling' is OVERRATED Rocket River "momma kissed me on my head. . . .aaahhh ****. . . . I'm dead" - Scarface
I don't think he meant storytelling. Just lyrical skills...like technically. Can't really disagree with that. I'll have to listen to Z-Ro, but I've heard him before and have no idea how he could be better than Nas. Put out one of the greatest rap albums ever like Nas and then maybe he could be compared.
Whoa there. Z-Ro is nowhere close to Nas in "lyrical skills". He is just "deep" like nas, so he talks about the same stuff. I never said he was better, I just said he was the same type of rapper as Nas, but had better delivery/flow. I was never talking about rappers who were great at "story telling". Yes, Scarface can tell some nice stories. Anybody can tell a story, and all the people you listed tell stories, but they only rhyme the end word. I'm not even gonna say anything about Slick Rick because he is probably the pioneer at telling stories. Listen to the way Nas or Eminem tells a story. They tell it with multi's and almost every word in the line rhymes with another word in the next line. Thats what I mean when I say they Scarface is overrated. He is good, but not good enough to be in the same boat as Jay-Z or Nas as a rapper alone. If you count the business side and what he did for Houston rap, then I'd put him up there with Biggie and Pac. Cause Scarface to Houston is like Biggie to NYC. Now you said Freestyle and Freestyle Battles are overrated. I agree with you, but Eminem is much more than just a freestyle battler. Have you even listened to his latest CD? Please go listen to it and tell me that he is JUST AVERAGE. "Sing For The Moment" and "Cleaning Out My Closet"...those 2 songs should tell you why he is one of the best rappers today. I can only put Nas and Jay-Z ahead of him.
Run DMC rules..........I really dont understand this new crap rap that is out today........damn I'm getting old
Big Pun was one of the most gifted lyricists to come out in a while before he died. His first album"Capital Punishment" proves that. For anyone that doubts Eminem's lyrical skills go listen to his song on Soundbombing 2 called "Anyman".
I'm sick of the Ja Rule bashing. Everybody on this board knows that they were feelin' his music before that ass 50 cent started something stupid. Remember Ja's first album? That's a good cd, and his latest LP "Blood In My Eye" shows that he's going back to his hardcore days. Seriously though, don't sleep on Ja. Cod
Big Pun was a nice lyracist, but it takes more than lyrics to make an emcee. He probably is on the level of Jay-Z and Nas as far as lyrics are concern, but he didn't have their charisma. To me, Capital Punishment was just about lyrics but Reasonable Doubts and Illmatic are more of whole pictures. I can't explain it, those albums just have a vibe to them that puts you in another world.
OK, I did listen to some of Z-Ro's stuff(That's Who I Am, Who Dat, Too Many Problems, Time 'n Time Again, F*** All Ya'll, F*** Watts and Snitch *****(50 Cent diss w/Scarface & Bun B). Personally I think the guy is ok, but far from the best to come out of H-Town and not anywhere close to Nas on any level. He sounds too generic, much like most of the other guys coming out of Houston. His delivery is plain and unoriginal on most of the songs I heard. I guess his flow was alright, but again I didn't hear anything that set him apart from the average Houston rapper. Ironically, the song that I thought he sounded best was the one where he teamed up with Scarface.
I thought Ja Rule was an average rapper with a couple good songs until he burried his face in Ashanti's pie and then tried to say he was still gangster enough to take on 50. **** him and the rest of his wack ass clique.
