How contradictory is this post .... You'd trade him to upgrade another position when there are less than a handful of players at his position that are marginally better ?!

    Yeah , Id trade him for CP3 , DH12 or .... true #1 options .
No , I wouldn't trade him for Bosh , there are more players at the PF position better than Bosh than there are at the SF spot better than Parsons.

    Homerism ?! I dunno .....

Morey would trade Parsons. Not sure for what though. Like he said in his most recent interview, everyone can be traded but Harden.

Parsons is only worth trading if you are getting a max-contract superstar who can take his place or fill the void in PF in return. Basically, he represents one of the two biggest values in the NBA - the minimum-salary player who completely outperforms his contract. The other end of that spectrum is the capped-salary player who is more valuable than his salary.

For a straight-up positional trade, LeBron and Durant are probably the only two on the list I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on. Of the guys on the PF list, the only two that really stand out are LMA and Bosh. Everyone else might potentially be an upgrade (in terms of talent), but are starting to show injury problems or are getting a little too long in the tooth to make it worth the swap over the next 2+ seasons.

there are many people that play well and are fools gold, I'm a huge AB fan but 20/5 for a season I couldn't see him sustaining . CP is one of those guys thats a a rare mix of incredible length, athleticism, finishing ability, mobility like a guard, and can shoot now. When he's on, he's more efficient than Harden. Just give him another year to work on his 1 on 1 skills off the dribble or "Isos" as CF swould call it.

I think most people would agree that Asik is our second most important player.

Daryl Morey recently said that in a recent podcast that Jeremy Lin was our third best player according to his secret statistics, which means Chandler Parsons is our forth best player--not our second best player.

Parsons is going to get a very big pay raise asap, and under the circumstances that he doesn't agree to a reasonable extension (4 years/32m is fair imo) then we shouldn't be closed minded to the idea of trading him in a package for a star.

Most people believe Kevin Love will walk in 2015 if he isn't traded, some people think Aldridge might do the same, and there is also speculation that the Heat might trade Bosh to avoid paying 48+ million in progressive tax. I would be okay with Parsons being packaged for one of those guys, and we can worry about the replacement SF later.

An even better situation where I wouldn't mind trading Parsons is if we get two superstars, I think no one is untouchable except Harden if that happens.

I saw this old video comparing salaries during Linsanity:

    <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/TbZNc2eClsg?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It made me think of this thread and Chandler Parsons.
Its interesting that at that time Lin was considered the most underpaid player in 36 years, now some people say overpaid (not me). The analogy with CPs situation is not that far removed. In a way, we are judging potential... and damn that's hard to judge. In large part, CP's trade value now is how people see his potential in the future. I think Rockets fans like us are seeing through rose tinted glasses. We believe in him... etc. But it not so much what we'd trade him for but the question should be what other teams would trade for him. Denver may not trade Iggy for Parsons, they may be more wary of trading a proven commodity for a player with potential. Maybe Parsons plays well under this system. There are a lot more questions when you look at it from the perpective of the other team.

Remember, a trade is a two way interaction.

So I guess the better question is "What are teams willing to give up for CP?" ...and would we accept it.

Miami will not give up Lebron for CP. Heck, LA probably wouldn't trade Dwight for CP.

it's all about value. Parsons provides very high value for his price. You don't trade him to upgrade another position because it leaves the SF in a hole. You trade him only for an SF with equal or better value so that just leaves Durant and LBJ, which isn't happening. So it really makes sense to just keep him.

His ceiling is Prince. Trade him when his value is high. SF is the easiest position to fill.

I wouldn't unless it was part of a package deal to get LeBron or Durant. Highly unlikely. I might consider it if we landed a max player this summer then were able to get another all star like LMA or ZBo. Also highly unlikely. The thing that makes Chandler so untouchable in my mind is his salary. In two years we could have a borderline all star making $1M/yr.

Parsons could eventually turn out to be what OKC did to Harden, they couldn't afford him. If some teams are stupid enough to trade a bonified, in their prime All-Star player for Parsons, I would do it. I believe Morey and Alexander loves Parsons too much to trade him, they'll fall in love with him until he becomes broken down like Yao. As much as the Rockets like to build a super stack team, they want to keep their drafted players that got right. Marketing wise, Parsons is a gold mine something Alexander loves, I'd be surprised if Parsons get departed.

He averaged more points, steals, and assists than Prince has in his entire career and it was only his 2nd season.

The circumstances under which I would trade Parson:

    1. We have acquired our second superstar

    and

    2. After this next season when we make him a restricted free agent and sign him to a fresh contract more in line with his value

    and

    3. We have signed, drafted, or traded for another competent 3 that is long and can defend the bigger 3s (Lebron/Durant) with some degree of success.

    and

    4. We can trade him in some sort of package for a 3rd superstar if he hasn't achieved that level himself.

All 4 of these conditions have to exist simultaneously for me to want to trade him.

The problem with trading him will be the salary imbalance. Both in terms of what we are allowed to take back per the CBA rules (we're still under the cap so this only really precludes a Parsons-for-max contract type deal) and in terms of how imbalanced our roster salaries would like after a Parsons trade. Right now, the fact that he's playing for basically free allows to have the kind of flexibility we are exercising now. Once that goes away you kiss the flexibility goodbye. I think Morey's goal is to keep Parsons at this salary until we are title contenders. Once that happens he can extend Parsons at any reasonable salary and go over the luxury tax to do so. We'll be contenders, and Parsons will deserve it, so Les will pay up.
