a lot of the players listed in this thread have had their careers hindered do to injuries, which shouldn't be held against them as underachieving.
Yao Ming. Back in 2006, I thought he was headed for a HOF-type career. McGrady also, of course. Edit: Not saying Yao "totally underperformed." He's just a player I think of when I think "very high expectations that weren't met".
Again, maybe not high expectation for these players but then again you were paid big bucks. Some guys listed may just be overpaid; good but not worth the contract. Of course, jmo: Kenyon Martin(signed w/ Denver - 7 yrs 92. 5 mil) Erick Dampier(signed w/ Dallas - 7 yrs 73 mil) Peja Stojakovic(signed w/ New Orleans - 5 yrs 64 mil) Ben Wallace(signed w/ Chicago - 4 yrs 60 mil) Jared Jeffries(signed w/ New York - 5 yrs 30 mil) Eddy Curry(signed w/ New York - 6 yrs 60 mil) Jerome James(signed w/ New York 5 yrs 30 mil) Elton Brand(signed w/ Philadelphia - 5 yrs 82 mil) Jose Calderson(extension w/ Toronto - 5 years 46 mil) DeSagana Diop(signed w/ Dallas - 5 yrs 32 mil) Beno Udrih(signed w/ Sacramento - 5 years 33 mil) Larry Hughes(signed w/ Cleveland - 5 yrs 65 mil) Luol Deng(extension w/ Chicago - 6 yrs 71 mil) Andre Iguodala(extension w/ Philadelphia - 6 yrs 80 mil) Emeka Okafor(extension w/ Charlotte - 6 yrs 72 mil) Andris Biedrins(extension w/ Golden State - 6 yrs 62 mil) Andrew Bogut(extension w/ Milwaukee - 5 yrs 60 mil) Gilbert Arenas(extension w/ Washington - 6 yrs 111 mil) Hedo Turkoglu(signed w/ Toronto - 5 yrs 53 mil) Shawn Marion(signed w/ Dallas - 5 yrs 39 mil)

The criteria varies on what an underachiever or bust is. Because they have to be noticed by people, to be in radar to get valued a bust. If they play TOO little, they become out of sight/out of mind and are completely off the radar to even add in the discussion. But then having everyone's attention means the players are doing something good in the first place doesnt it? (Like Vince Carter, Rasheed Wallace) as compared to the players that just disappear and are forgotten (Like Kenny Satterfield, Todd Fuller, Joseph Forte, etc). Will try to keep it as serviceable enough to hang around, but should have been doing more. And old name, Benoit Benjamin? The late 80's-early 90's poster child of playing for contract money then getting lazy? You can list plenty of big men like Shawn Bradley, Luc Longley, Maurice Taylor, etc... Tim Thomas is perennial name for this list. By far the most hype I remember going into COLLEGE was Felipe Lopez.
How can a team be like the Clippers if they have any luck and success? Isn't that the very definition of the Clippers, no luck or success?
