I said that we SHOULD take Reddick, but that was out of my control, if however, he ends up stinking you will have a point. DD
I specifically remember a post where you said that the Rockets were putting up smoke screens and that you thought we were GOING to draft Reddick. Ofcourse we all know that you thought we should draft Reddick.
I think Garner has lost the team's confidence and needs to go. I get the feeling watching the games and reading the looks on the player's faces, that scrap is not very well liked anymore and that sense of family is missing. This has increasingly been the case ever since he threw the chair from the dugout in disgust. Also, he's not the best at the technical aspects of managing. I am tired of all the lineup changes, pitching changes, and substitutions he executes "from the gut". It worked for a while. Clearly luck is running out for Philip. I guess the only question is: Who's gonna start the FIRE GARNER!!!!!!!!!!! thread?
I have a hard time firing a manager for missing the playoffs, particularly in baseball, immediately after the season he took them to the World Series and NLCS in the prior 2 seasons.
Who have the Astros ever just pulled up from the minors I hear Pallilo talking sounds like everyone is just parts they bring in from other places like hey have no confidence in their farm system Rocket River
Trying to read expressions from snapshots of the dugout is not a good idea. When you're losing, you're never going to look thrilled.
current astros off the top of my head from their farm system: ensberg lane lidge biggio oswalt hirsh berkman everett scott backe wandy you're either misunderstanding charlie or he's a lot dumber than i thought. the astros farm system has been one of the better systems in the past decade.
You're kidding, right? Max: I also find it hard to blame Garner when so many integral pieces of the team underperformed. What was he supposed to do?
Of the current team: Berkman, Burke, Lane, Scott, Ensberg, Willy T, Biggio, Everett, House, Borkowski, Hirsh, Lidge, Oswalt, Qualls, Wandy, and Sampson all spent time in our minor leagues. In addition, we brought up players like Albers, Buchholz, and Bruntlett who are not currently on the roster.
exactly. i've been critical of garner at times...i think he's made some stupid moves. but over 162 games that's gonna happen. he's not the problem.
I think I misunderstood HE seems to harp on them not bring guys up alot guys being 25+ still in Double A ball Rocket River
yeah, that criticism has been out there. but it's hard to argue with their track record. when i hear charlie say that my thought is always, "do you think you could have steered them better with your plan?"
Can someone remind me why Hirsh was so untouchable in trade talks? Also...I thought House had some major shoulder surgery that wouldnt let him catch...is he fully recovered?
That player in particular is Ben Zobrist. Pallilo was saying all year that the Astros should bring up Zobrist because he can't be any worse then Everett. Well, Zobrist is batting .214 for the D-Rays and can't field the position nearly as well as Everett. Our current farm system is weak, and there are reasons why these players aren't in the majors.
Let's give Hirsh more than 3 starts to determine his value. Matt Garza (Twins) was untouchable as well. He is 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA after his first 3 starts. House did some catching at the beginning of the year in the minors. I doubt he has fully recovered and it is probably one of those things that will improve in time. Last night he made one horrible throw (after blocking a pitch in the dirt) and one adequate throw. I suspect he'll probably be better than Piazza (throwing) currently is, but that's not saying much.
Because he's a damn good prospect. Hasn't shown it yet, though. Most young pitchers (& players) struggle in their first exposure to the bigs. There's a big difference b/t House being physically able to catch everyday in the bigs (or even 4 out of 5) and House being able to catch a game or 2 per week. He's very good as a receiver, it's just a question of whether or not his shoulder will come around & hold up enough to put him back there regularly. We'll see how he is in ST next year.
